I had an inspection done at an "for now to remain anonymous" OPC and they came up with nail in off-side rear tyre. Replace tyre.

Well, I went to the local tyre fitters today to get it checked out and we took both rear tyres off to inspect them. Not a sign of a nail anywhere. What gives? Were they just trying to hit some targets before the end of the month?

Same goes for the brakes. They told me they were corroded and worn beyond their limit and that I would need to replace the discs and pads all round. Took the car to a local Indy who said rubbish there is loads of life left in them and cleaned them up to be as new.

hehe

I got told I needed new discs and pads by OPC 14,000 miles ago.

At the last service 3,000 miles ago the discs were not even mentioned.

hehe

I had an 111 point inspection carried out and I got told my PCCBs were serviceable.
700 miles (and a mere 10 days later) they fell apart.(Next time I get any report done by an OPC it'll be in writing not given verbally over the phone)

Oh how I roflroflrofl

Yep, had the same thing on my TT at it's recent service. "Needs new discs and pads all round, sir" Seems to be a pretty standard ploy !!!!

Are they insisting these issues are addressed before they allow you to take out the warrantee ?

Did they not show you the nail ?

MaKSiNG, did they not let you go around with the 'technician' when they did the inspection? I believe you were going to ask.

That was the inspection I did before purchasing the car. The nail nor the brakes were going to prevent me buying the car. But the OPC in question weren't going to put a warranty on it unless I replaced the brakes all round (even though they are not covered banghead )

But tomorrow I have another inspection booked at Colchester OPC in order to try and get a warranty. I will ask the technician then if I can go around with him.

Tell them you will replace the brakes if they put it in writing that they will cover the brakes under warranty.

A couple of years ago I was selling my 993TT before leaving the UK. I always had the car serviced by JZ Machtech due to a very overpriced and poor service at an OPC once.

A potential buyer paid for a PPI at an OPC in east London who during the check thought the car needed engine oil (it didn't and they obvioulsy didn't know how to read the oil level gauge) and overfilled it to a rediculous level. The car then smoked on startup and they put the smoking in their report to the potential buyer who then pulled out of the deal!! He lost himself a good car and spend well over 300 quid for the priveledge.

Luckily I sold the car a week later for the asking price to someone a bit more clued up about 993TT's but I did have a few words with the OPC.

Lucky my fingers were crossed

Went through with absolutely no problems or advisories. Both the technician and the service guy commented that I have a very nice car there. So now I also have an OPC warranty.

I did end up going around the car with the technician as well. And also went on the test drive. Excellent service all round.

great stuff. out of interest, how long was the total inspection and how much did cost?

This was something of much debate in a previous thread.
At Colchester it was £110 + VAT.
I think it was Bolton, it was £99 + VAT.
But in London it can cost over £200 + VAT.

It only took something like 1 hour. Although me chatting to the guy made it a bit longer still.
