In the past this has always been a crap route - crap ferries, crap roads.

I did the trip last weekend and was pleasantly suprised. Transmanche ferries now have two new vessels on the route and the A28 is now open giving you a glorious, empty motorway from Rouen almost to the circuit. I got from Dieppe to the circuit exit in just over three hours, and that was in a truck with a max speed of 56mph.

Just a quick heads up for those of you who haven`t decided which way to go yet. (saves about 100 miles on Dover/Calais)

I did that route last year Towie. Nice 4 hour relaxation with a half decent fryup on the boat. What more could you ask for?

Yeah, except for some funny bit that went across some fields hehe

Followed some Caterhams on the on the old road for a bit but wanted to stretch the Cerb's legs a little so jumped on the motorway and put my feet up on the dash

I am going that way this year, and one of the Transmanche Ferries is also doing an afternoon trip to Le Havre, and I am coming back via Le Havre.

Its a more expensive way of doing it, but will save money in fuel especially as I only live 20 miles from Newhaven.

I believe that Transmanche was owned by the local Frech government, European law has banned this and it is now owned by the same owner who owns LD Lines which is one of the haulage companies.

FYI, the check-in at Newhaven is rather 'agricultural' so get there with plenty of time as you may have to queue for a while to get your tickets.

So its even worse that used to be in the days of the Sea Cat? Mind you the good news is it might give an excuse the 3 breakfats agian, one before leaving home, one after having checked in, and one on board!

The worrying thing will be the check in time at Le Havre on the return trip as the boat goes at 8pm, which might make it tight with the amount of traffic. Especially with the need to drop my wife at Le Mans station as she is travelling by train (to drop and collect daughter in Ashford)

A lot worse, Last year I got lost trying to find check in. It's was a proper hole last year. Using speed ferries this year even though Newhaven is 10 miles from my front door!

You dont need tickets. Just present your booking number at the little check in booth.
