Targa Roof on Warranty
Discussion
Hi - new user just after advice.
I have a 2002 996 Targa with extended Warranty. The dealer tells me that the cartridge needs replacing on the roof (£4k) and that it is not covered by the Extended Warranty. I have read through the Ts&Cs and am unable to find an exclusion that relates to the Targa Cartridge. In fact, the Warranty states that electric motors, sunroofs or roofs are covered. The cartridge is an electric motor and so I want to know if they are just resisting as Warranty companies tend to do to put me off. Has anyone has successfully claimed againat the warranty, if so how?

I have the full official Warranty.
I think that I have a good claim because of the ambiguity in the policy document. My wife is a barrister specialising in contracts and so she is going to draft me a document to send to Porsche, but I was hoping that someone had a story of a successful claim and how they followed it through.
If I am unsuccessful, a recomendation for a good indepentant in or near SW London would be appreciated.

am going in for a 111 point inspection and will ask about the roof (have a 51 targa). will let you know if they mention anything of help.

another thought, were there any tell tale signs??
I rarely try to close the roof with just the engine off / on the key fob, but when I do, it does seem to struggle. all ok with the engine on. anyone else have that problem?

It started to struggle about 2 months ago - even when engine on and then seized up on me 2 weeks ago.

As your missus will doubtless confirm, where there is ambiguity and the usual rules of construction don't show a "true" meaning, the provision in question generally has to be construed contra proferentem - that's to say, against the person who drafted the document.
So, if there's no exclusion specific to the glass roof and associated components, and if it doesn't fall squarely within the "wear and tear" provision, I'd stick to your guns and tell them you'll see them in court if they don't agree to cover it.
(Numbers like £4K for repairs to a Targa roof - albeit a 993 in my case - scare me a bit!

i am taking it to the Independant specialist that you recommended in Vauxhall...will get a report from them and if it is a fault, i will progress with th ewarranty. looks as though it will be classed as wear and tear from what i have researched with other drivers...still fingers crossed.
