Gallardo Advice
Discussion
I am currently hunting around for a 05/06 gallardo to fill the 'supercar' hole in the garage... I have a gallardo in mind, mainly for the lovely v10 and also the 4 wheel drive plus everyday usage.
Few questions on the e-gear mainly as I have always been a manual guy... even on the 430. Most of my driving is in London and up the M1, how does the car respond to horrible London traffic? When you are in stop start traffic do you put the egear in neutral when stopped? or just hold on the brake? Whats the e-gear like compared to a manual?
If I get an 05 model, would the 06 exhaust fit? or would I be better going for something aftermarket? I dont particuarly want something too 'boomy' in the cabin but a nice 'noise' on the outside or when under way!
Any things I should look for apart from the obvious clutch issues etc? On the e-gear how long 'on average' would one last?
Now Giallo Midas? or Arancio Atlas?
Thanks Guys....

Only help I can give is that after one day with e-gear it felt the most natural way to drive, yes you need to flick into neutral if stopped for more than 3 seconds, but could just put it into auto anyway at times like that?
Solution? Buy the car and relocate up North so you can enjoy it!

I would stretch the extra to the 06, theres not a huge amount of cash in it at the moment as 05 cars are scarce, and i think in terms of resale a lot of people will hang on for a 06 or later.
driving a 06 i felt startled and bemused, getting out of the gallardo spyder i felt like i'd just got out of a bath with an eletric eel biting onto my m-gear
You should buy a Gallardo, in any colour, with any transmission, coupe of convertible, you shouldn't care what the clutch cost and you should be entirely thankful that we live in the last days of a heathen petroleum empire where we still have freedom to drive a car that sounds like krakatoa erupting.
The great think is if you tickle about at 2K rpm (which is easy because there s enough torque to move a dead elvis off the toilet) then its quieter than a A4.
I know everyone says the Murci is the full fat Lambo, GRR ROAR! GRRR! but i love the baby bull more. Driving the LP640 is like a S and M session with Naomi Cambell, driving the bull is more like an afternoon with Sandra Bullock. Not "quite" as exciting, but somehow i always smile more thinking about it
Bloody Lambos. They just get under your skin don't they. next time i see Valentino im going to give him a big

I use my 06 egear every day and commute into and out of central london. Yes, it's not as good as my AMG merc auto in traffic but nor would I expect it to be. I do put it in neutral at lights etc - but it's hardly much effort - a gentle movement of my fingers! The car also engages 1st v quickly on one pull, so there's no hanging around once the lights change. Egear can still be a bit jerky when slowing to a stop, especially if doing so quickly - I sometimes engage neutral and drift the last 20ft under brakes only.
I have not had any issues with overheating clutch etc that used to afflict robotised manuals. The car is reasonably quiet round town at low revs, certainly not headache inducing in the cabin. Get your foot down and it's a different, rather angry sounding proposition.

I was offered an 05 car for about 94K, and Lambo high wycombe have an 06 @ 125K
In my eyes thats a big difference for slightly different gear ratios, exhaust, etc imo!
Personally i think the latter car's still have a lot to lose.
As for color i choose Arancio Atlas!! It certainly gets noticed
but there seems to be more of the Giallo Midas around! (I think Dion had an 05 one in that colour!)
Whatever the spec! i'm sure you'll love it i do
Good luck

Lambo Birmingham have a fully loaded 06 car with lots of extras for 118.5K, Lambo Manchester have one at 117.5 - they also have a 05 at 99,950.
I think beyond the technical mod's the bug fixes and extra years warranty have to figure into it if you intend to keep the car for an extra year - since you can't extend to warranty that difference in price could be outweighed by one big fix, as i said, i think its worth the extra to go from a 05-06.
Doing the math between the 05 and 06 car at lambo, which is slighyl subjective as they are a different spec, but if there is a clear year the warranty is probably worth about 6K imho, but since you can't buy a aftermarket warranty thats a moot point. but anyway knock the "value" of the extra warranty off and there is 12K different, ballpark 1K a month in depreciation bwtween teh 2 at retail.
ALl this talk of gallardo "heavy depreciation" makes me laugh. I bought my Audi S8 for 78 grand, at 3 years old i was offered 14K for it in part ex against a new 89,000 Audi S8. In the first year alone it dropped from 78,000 down to 34,000.
1,000 a month average depreciation on a 120K car is quite good imho, the biggest fall seems to be year 1 from the 150K down to about 120, then it seems to start to tail off, 10 percent a year imho is good on a 120K exotic.
but as i have always said, ff you buy a exotic italian supercar and expect NOT to lose money then you one of lifes eternal optimists!!!!

Cheers for all the comments lads&ladies ;-)
Exactly what I was looking for.. and here are some answers to the q's.....
430 went as it was such a good offer and I would have been stupid not to take it. Lets just say a friend was so desperate for one, but the other reason for it going was that I hardly ever drove it... i just used the RS all the time. So my thoughts are now (as i miss the supercar bug) get rid of the RS, buy a Lambo and get something small to punt around in when needed (prob a diesel).
Depreciation.. I really am not that worried, I enjoy my cars and unfortunately depreciation is the price you pay but hey ho, its my one vice in life so I am allowed!
Im going to start looking next month, and will prob have a look at a late 05 or early 06 depending on whats arround. Having never driven one I should prob do that too!
Again... thanks for the comments! Appreciate that...
