L/Weight Affordable easyfit seats
Discussion
I recently fitted Cobra seats into my 944, to be honest the seats themselves were lighter than the standard items. But the steel subframes needed to attach seats to car probably returned the weight straight back to the same as the original seats.
Fitting the seats was a bit of a faff, the subframes came in four parts and required a fair bit of lining up, which wasnt easy and I consider myself to be pretty handy with a spanner.
Alloy subrframes are available (at predictably greater cost) and if they are purpose built for the car might be a far better bet than the universal subframes I have.
The seats were reasonably cheap £100 each (fixed back forza's). The subframes were about £40 each. The seats provide excelent support and are very comfy. But due to the reasonably small door apertures and high sides of the seats you need to be fairly supple to get in and out of the car.
The other down side to these seats was the wait to get them in. It took over a month for the seats to turn up and then a further 3 weeks to get the subframes sorted.
The clubsport bucket seats advertised in the porsche shop catalogues might be a better bet, even if they are a tad more expensive.

Did you do the sad thing (that I would have done) and weighed your old seats when you took them out?
I know the electric adjustable Leather sports seats in my Turbo weigh 25 kilos each. I have had my eye on some OMP buckets that only weigh 7.5 kilos and cost 80 quid. I would be gutted if the mounts put more than a few kilos back

Well to be honest I didnt do anything quite so scientific as weigh the seats. Basicaly when I pulled the passenger seat out I compared it to the bucket seat by feel and after picking up each seat in turn the bucket seats definatley took less effort. Please note mine is an early 944 so the original seats have no electric adjustment, I wouldnt have thought these seats weighed as much as 25 kg to start with.
Once the steel sub frame was bolted on I couldnt tell the difference betwean the two. Having said that at least the weight is now low down and not spread through out the seat.
The real reason for changing the seats was because the originals were absolutley knackered and even if they had been fully refurbed they didnt provide any side support what so ever. The weight thing was more of a side issue, all though I certainley didnt want to add any weight to the car.

I have a Recaro SPG in my 993C4, find it extremely comfortable, much better than the sport seat that it replaced, and a huge improvement for track day use. Supplied and fitted by Southdown Motor Trimmers in Hants. Try before you buy, not suitable for the broad of hip
It's worth spending some time to get the backrest angle to your liking (means drilling extra holes in the mounting plates).
