Contractors Accountant Required

Hi

Having just set up a new company having used an umbrella company for the last few years I now need to find someone who can do my payroll for me and to prepare accounts at year end. Having met with a couple already I'm being quoted £175 per month plus VAT whereas the umbrella company was charging £90pm which included Liability insurance. Am I being optimistic in hoping to find a cheaper accountant or is £175 the going rate?

Anyway, if anyone knows of any good (in otherwords, cheap) accountants in London that they would recommend please let me know.

Try Anthony Brown and Co, 87b Victoria Road Horley (numbers probably in yell.com)

they did my contractor accounts for about 6 years, and they do a lot of contractors. i think they are about 1000 a year on average but they do a really good job.

£175 per month sounds very excessive to do accounts and payroll for a one man band.

Shop around and look to pay £600-900 plus vat for the accounts and corporation tax return(depending on records) and £20-£30 per month for payroll.

I've used Garbetts for around 9 years and am very happy with them. Their charges are below average and their service well above average.

Edit: I should note that although they are based on the Isle of Wight they are very geared up to email. I've never needed to have a face-to-face meeting yet in all the years I've used them.
