I think it's a very sensible idea as you've decided to use a Pentax.

You generally have to sell a kidney or 2 to buy new lenses

Er?

Surely they take standard Pentax fit lenses. That was one of the major pluses when I was looking around for an SLR (which never materialised). Image stabilisation is in-camera which helps reduce the prices too.

I will be very interested to see what results you get!

I've been taking pics around the house and so far I am pleased with the camera's performance. Burst mode buffer fills up a bit quick and indoor white balance is dreadful (has to be set manually) but these are minor niggles.

In terms of lenses I plumped for the kit with the 18-55mm Pentax lens (seems decent enough) and the Sigma 55-200mm. The Sigma is pretty well built and light. Its a bit too soft at the longest focal lengths and auto-focus can be a wee bit slow in low light but heck, its a £100(new) lens so I can't complain.

Shake reduction is beneficial and does seem to work but won't perform miracles. At the end of the day its no substitute for a tripod (which I can't be bothered with) or good technique.

Can't wait to get out and about this weekend and take some proper pictures

So far I haven't worked out why they put a donor registration form in the box... maybe its a sign... eek
