currently my civic (b16a2) is fitted with a power boost valve. but it's due to get a nice wee t3 turbo introduced to it.

so heres my question, am i right in thinking that a power boost valve isn't the same as a rising rate fuel pressure regulator.

say with 10 psi of boost it won't increase the fuel pressure by 10 psi etc.

I think it rises at a rate higher than 1:1

Never actually monitored pressure from one, although have used them many times on turbocharged cars

If its an FSE get rid of if, you only need to search FSE on scoobynet and GTR.co.uk to pick up some horror stories.

Most aftermarket regulators are 1:1, i.e. 1psi increase in intake pressure gives 1psi increase in fuel pressure, however some are 1:1.7, i.e. 1psi increase in intake pressure gives 1.7psi increase in fuel pressure.

The ones I've seen are exactly that - the fuel pressure rises by more than the manifold pressure so it goes richer as you open the throttle. Not a very scientific approach to engine tuning, might be beneficial if your engine is leaning out under power, but otherwise just likely to make it run too rich.

i think it is a FSE one, i remember looking into them a while ago, and they were rubbish then, it came fitted to the car so i just left it on.

when i do fit the turbo on, i'll be tuning it with a full mappable ecu and a wideband, but yea i just wonder were they the same as the likes of a sard rising rate fuel pressure regulator like i had on my starlet gt turbo. just wasn't sure if they were the same as or what a FMU FUEL MANAGEMENT UNIT is.

Yeah go the Sard, quality item compared to the FSE and not expensive.

The Vortech FMU is a 1:1.7 rising rate regulator.

Good to hear you'll be doing things properly with an ECU and wideband thumbup

And if you have an ecu to control fueling, the FSE will work fine.

But as some say, it is not as good a quality item as other brands, but to date, Ive used 20-30 of them, and never had a problem myself.

The Vortech FMU's can be had in many different ratios.
