Oi!!!
Hiya Ewan, welocome to PH mate!
Don't listen to the others, they're just jealous of my off road abilities! Chelmsford to Burnham is always a good route, popular with bikers. However, to give you the route I'll have to get it off the others....I tend to just follow the group!
Are you out and about this weekend?

Pick on someone bigger!
Anyways, I'm sure I'm a relative newcomer to this crashing lark....Come you know who you are....lets hear it....I know you're out there....!!
just winding you up....
have great respect for anyone who can laugh at themselves in an unfortunate situation
so i think we're on the same number mate.....1 all isn't it, or do you want 1 and a half?, cos of your last "Field trip"
There are some good routes in North Essex, Dunmow toward Thaxted etc, good twisty bits mixed with some long straights.
A word of warning though, keep your speed in check, especially at the weekend as the biker routes are well patrolled, especially in the good weather.
If you go on the A130 from Chelmsford to Great Leighs you will prob see bikers knee sliding the roundabouts, again these are patrolled and you need to keep your speed in check.
The old southend road is a nice route now, especially if you make a stop at Battlesbridge.
As Chilli says, the Burnham route is a good one, but watch it in the wet as those 90 degree bends can be really slippery!!
I'll have my bike on the road again soon so if you see a zzr1200 with PH emblem stickers on each side be sure to say hi.

Haven't lived in chelmo for a few years now, but the A414 towards harlow had some quite nice bends, plenty of opportunities to safely get passed our four wheeled friends as well
just head down by highlands park and keep on going. There's a few roundabouts to get you warmed up before the real corners start.

im back sorry lost the thread..
tried the 414, didnt seem twisty enough and its crawling with rozzers! havent tried the burnham route yet although been as far as maldon which is fairly twisty in places.
favourite route at present tho must be a few laps on a131 then up a120 to the b1060 and back to cford. oh and been up to finchingfield once (mandatory i feel!)
cant wait to get to brands for a track day!!

As said already, the roads out towards Thaxted are good, but i find the better and quieter roads are if you carry on past Finchingfield towards Weathersfield and beyond.
Also the Ongar Road out of Dunmow is very good, watch the spped limits though, not just for the Police but for the local residents.
But carry on all the way to Ongar, thats the best bit!!!!

Now that sounds like a nice "local" plan. Don't think I've got anything planned that day, but will have to ask the mrs.
Gassing Station | Biker Banter | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
