Bugs in Headlamp pods

One of the unwanted features of my Tuscan 2 is that flys & bugs accumulate in the headlamp pods. They were filling-up nicely when the car had its brush with nature. Then I asked my dealer to fix the problem at the same time as repairing the damage. My dealer has since gone out of business, but the final resting accommodation in my lights, it seems, has not.

I haven't seen any other T2s with the problem, and the dealer, before his demise (which I have to say I am increasingly not sorry for) told me my lights were as they should be.

There is a gap around the headlight lenses where they fit to the headlamp pods, which is where the bugs are obviously getting-in. Having spent ages sucking-out the latest accumulations of bugs with a vacuum cleaner and straws inserted through the gaps, I got some windscreen washer tubing and used it to try and fill the gaps temporarily. However - I'm obviously concerned that, if they are meant to be there, the lights could overheat.

Does anyone else have the problem? Should the gaps be there? Should they have mesh, or something, to stop things getting in?

Yes - the white arrow points to the gap around the headlamp unit through which the bugs must be getting-in (headlamp access panel removed).



Incidentally - any idea what the unconnected wiring in the following pictures is for??
