Hallo to everybody!

I am in search for an original 993 GT(2) LHD, street version, not raced, without rollacage. I know it is a difficult and "expensive" search.

Any help and suggestions?

Thanks,

Stefano

Here under Porsche:

www.germansportscars.de/englischstart.html

Or Paul at www.gtclassics.co.uk sometimes has stock in. They're the first two places to look, and only one is in the UK.

Thanks.

Unfortunately, no one is in stock NOW in either sites.

The likelyhood of a good 993gt2 being for sale that either Tom or Paul don't know about is unlikely. Talk to them, be prepared for a long wait.

thanks again for your suggestions, but unfortunately the GT2 you mention is "coming soon" probably within 6 months or later. I know both sites very well, and no one is for sale NOW or in the next weeks.
Money is no object to me for this car if it is original.

Have you spoken to Thomas on the phone? He isn't the world's best website updater... what is 'coming soon' may have 'come and gone' by the time the site gets updated. As long as he knows you are looking you will be in good hands. You will need to be very proactive to get the car you are after. They are extremely rare in the specification you want, as I'm sure you know You may also have to wait a while for one to come up - the only way to get one 'NOW' may be to actually approach an owner with an offer they can't refuse. I know of a few owners, but the cars have cages, go on track a lot and the owners seem to like them a lot. Good luck in the search anyway, I will certainly keep an eye out.

I am also casually looking from a far for a 993GT but would want the cage etc as i'd certainly want to take it on track. I just can't help wondering how close I could get my TT to GT performance by simply removing the 4wd and spending the money on engine/tyres/suspension and weight loss?

You can get close to the performance, for sure... 500+ bhp in a Turbo 4 is impressive and frightening enough to rival a GT2 in a straight line. But the 993GT2 is far more special as a whole. They look better, have that RennSport lightweight vibe, and overall just seem to have more personality. Difficult to put your finger on, really. More than the sum of their parts, I suppose - but you do pay for it. I'd be interested to know what that GT2 engined 993RS is like that Thomas has in stock. Maybe converting an RS is a better basis than converting a Turbo 4?

H&S have some lovely cars, just a shame there are not more pictures to dribble over.
Hi aceparts a piece of advice. A few years back when I raced in the intermarque championship there was a scottish chap who tried to do exactly the above. He spent a small fortune with tech 9, with engine mods, disconnecting 4 wheel drive, carbon fibre everything and guess what he finally bought a 993 GT2 as it just did not work. It is very hard to get the weight out of these cars. ie a 996 gt3 club sport weighs from memory 1350kg, a 996 super cup car weighs 1100kg. I ran a 3.2 carrera chassis with a 420bhp 3.3 turbo engine and g50 gearbox, carbon fibre doors, bonnet and engine lid, bbs race wheels, perspex side, quarter and rear windows and she still weighed 1140kg. Don't ask what she cost but I did win the championship. At least with a GT2 it will always be worth a fortune.

I am sorry, but as a collector, and not a racer, I cannot appreciate "re-built" cars.

I do believe that in UK or Europe there are at least few owners who could be interested in selling their original LHD 993 GT (please let's do not call it GT2). And I think that PistonHeads may be a great place to find it NOW!

I am waiting for a mint one...

First of all the advice imparted was directed to aceparts and not to you and based upon previous experience.
Secondly to enligthen you it is, type 993, model 3.6 coupe GT2, to distinguish between, 3.2 coupe GT1.

I am sorry if I have been misunderstood.

The 993 GT-2 was named so "after" its launch, and to distinguish it. But in the car you don't find any reference to GT2 but only to GT. This is what I simply outlined.

Bye.
