Points and how long - how about a change
Discussion
Proposal:
Why not change the period for which the less nasty motoring convictions such as speeding are valid. Say 18 months instead of 3 years? Really naughty offences could be made to stay on your license longer (drink driving/death by reckless driving or whatever), but for Joe Public this would make everyone a lot happier -people wouldn't drive and less cautiously either.
Actually, sorry, this is like expecting National Insurance to go back down 1% or for the tax on fuel to be spent on the roads/transport/environment only instead of weapons of mass destruction.

Speeding is of course directly related to accidents and road deaths, and the intransigent minority who continue to speed put every motorist at risk. To suggest that the penalties for such selfish and reckless behaviour should be reduced is of course ridiculous.
Your suggestion carries merit only if the number of drivers actually banned from driving because of an accumulation of speeding offences increases to the point where the benefits of the reduced tolerance for speeding are reduced in real fiscal terms.
Oh bugger, I think I just gave the game away.

LOL!
Of course it is, and that clearly explains why our motorways (they're the fastest roads, in case you don't know) are the safest roads in the country.

DD already stays on your licence for 10 years.
In reality if you wanted to modify them, I'm sure some offenses would result in longer points, but I can't see anything coming down...

If you really wanted to change the points system, why not allow 1100 points on your license over 3 years (1 offence every day for 3 years, and a couple of spares).
