Mostly taken with the new lens. Its VERY heavy (obviously), and I just cannot get on with panning on a monopod. Its a technique thing I'm sure. I guess I could use the monopod for when the cars are coming straight at me, and so no panning required...but all of yesterday's pics other than the first 10-15 are handheld.
Handheld isn't that bad actually, since the focussing is SO quick, I can raise up the camera just before I shoot, and get the shot I want, most of the time.
Didn't need to use it with the 1.4 TC, as you can get so close to the track anyway. I tried it out at the very end, just to see what it was like, and the extra magnification showed so much camera shake, either a super fast shutter speed, or the monpod would be necessary if I were at a different track. The ones at the end of the set are also handheld.
Very impressed with the results...they look pretty crappy on the web when compared to the originals. Sharpness is phenomenal, autofocus is simply WOW. Let me know if there a photo that you want put up that is full size if you want to see the detail captured.
Worth carrying around all day??????? You betcha.

PS A big thank you to Paul Garlick and Ted for the media pass. Back to Oulton again tomorrow

I strongly suggest you get some practice in with the 1.4x TC...and even a 2x if you have one.
The 300 2.8L is one of a rare breed of lenses that were actually designed to be used with the Canon TCs and turn out some stunning images with them fitted. I know a couple of Motorsport 'Togs who use those combinations extensively and their work is fantastic (IanH are you listening?
)
As for panning with a 'pod its far too easy to move the camera in an arc...if you can get that little issue ironed out you're laughing.
