I'm just about to buy and fit a Laser Pro Park (a parking aid for my wife which also apparently has the unfortunate side effect of jamming laser guns).

It jams the UK 904nm laser gun frequency.
Does anyone know if this is the same frequency as used by French police (or do they use radar instead?).

if the police catch you with it they will quite literally cut your Bcensoreds off, they dont take kindly to radar detectors and jammers

Seriously, take the scenic route, it's just not worth the hassle for what is, after all a great week/end away. Alternatively take two days to drive down/back and go via Germany

Don't even risk it Dempsey. Highly illegal in France and as is said above - they will have your balls. Just stick to the limit and enjoy the drive. You can spend 51 weeks of the year speeding in France happily. But not Le Mans week!

but these things are not sold as 'Laser Jammers' they're sold as 'automatic gate openers' etc or parking sensors as the gent' says & they are hard wired in - you can't take them out like a road angel...

by the way chap, the guy that fitted mine ran the battery dead... it's fine now though...

have to agree it's not worth going mental during Le mans week..

How about going back to the chap who fitted it and asking if he can alter it to "automatic door lockers". That way the boys in blue will have serious road rage themselves as they desperately try and get out of their own car.thumbup

In which case I'm gestting they will either rip it out (regardless of damage to your vehicle), or take the whole car with them to the pound.

Obviously if you don't have it switched on, they won't know and if you've bought it to open your garage door you won't be using it in France (unless you have a mate with a HGV and are performing some Knight Rider-esk manover of course).

mate hes being serious!! They are illegal in france so if you are caught using one which is very likely on the le mans weekends they will take any actions necesary to put it out of action. There are alot of people who have had 1000 euro fines and been made to run over their radar detectors before!! but at the end of the day its your money your car take the risk if you want just dont say you havent been warned!!

I'm sure he is being serious... but posts that start with 'I'm guessing' are often misleading...

Also, are we talking about the same thing here? Laser 'Jammers' are also illegal in the UK, not to be confused with GPS blackspot systems that are often dash-mounted like snooper & road angel?

My point is that the technology has moved on & that these 'new' systems have many uses/functions - they are the same as the 'adaptive cruise control' systems fitted to new Nissans & they are the same as 'real' automatic door openers as used by Mr Ordinary in his Volvo etc (no offence intended) - so at what point do the French or any other police force decide to start dismantling your car?

I have been to Le Mans several times by the way & have been pulled up in France & Spain - so I know what they're like!

Appreciate the warning and well intentioned post but would welcome confirmed advice from anyone out there that has had a similar deviced ripped out of their car (if it has happened, then I'd consider having mine uninstalled etc!)

Cheers.

How good is your French language? You could take the paperwork and argue the toss. I frequently drive in France and have been stopped quite a few times, mostly it seems that the car attracts the attention as it doesn't seem to happen when in the Audi!

Have fun
