The Manthey is now staying put!
Discussion
Excuse my ramblings but I just feel the need to share this with you.
I used to share a Mk1 Manthey GT3 with a mate - it's the full monty, a genuine Manthey badged car converted for a Manthey racing driver at the Ring so had all the trimmings including the power upgrade, chip, sports exhaust, Ring suspension, Cup aerokit, carbon cold air feed, BBS Le Mans wheels, 6 caliper sports brakes and bigger discs, carbon engine cover and carbon rear wing etc etc etc. Then I bought the Mosler and so I had a new toy to play with and stopped using the Manthey whilst my mate continued to enjoy it. Finally we decided to sell the car but despite putting it in the PH classifieds amongst others we didn't get a single enquiry - not one! And this is one of the fastest GT3's of any variant (other than full on race) on the road or track, genuinely "no expense spared" maintained by Manthey and specialist from new and described by the guy who looks after it over here as "mint." It's a hard one to put a value on but we thought we had pitched the price relatively keenly at £47k to sell, yet we had absolutely no interest whatsoever. It is left-hand drive and has 42,000 miles on it but to be honest I personally don't see why that should make much of a difference. I can't understand it and would be interested in any views from you all as to why. I know there are some ridiculously cheap GT3's about at the moment but the Manthey in this guise is a rare beast indeed so I would have at least expected a phone call or two as we approach the new track season.
However, happy days! My love affair with the GT3 is back on big time! I am chuffed to bits that nobody wanted it because it gave me time to re-think what I was doing and I decided to buy my mate out and now it's mine all mine. I have just got back from a run up north to see the family and I have a very big grin on my face. I haven't driven the car for several months and I had forgotten just what an amazing machine it is. The endless power surge to the horizon on full chat, the noise from that amazing exhaust - especially the howl as it gets above 4000rpm, the driving position, the fantastic visibility, the turn in, the grip levels, the agility, the balance, the feedback, the response, the the the the......everything!! Wow! I am a happy man indeed as you can probably tell. And to cap it all I was showing a range of over 500 miles on a full tank cruising down the M1 in 6th! Thank goodness a buyer didn't emerge - it's now unlikely to come up for sale again. It's a keeper and I can't wait to put some serious fun miles on track and road this year.
The other thing that amazes me is how easy it is to drive very quickly in the real world. It certainly makes me realise how physical the Mosler is to drive - but that's a different experience altogether and I love it just as much. Yes I know I am very fortunate to have two such amazing cars and this is not meant as a bragging post in any way as those who know me will testify. This site is so often full of the pro / anti GT3 brigade banter that I thought you might be interested in a view from someone who had lost the passion but has now got it back by the tank full!! I have a feeling this year could be expensive in tyres, discs, pads and fluids etc!
Here's a few mixed photos you might enjoy:
Cheers

Looks lovely in those photos. To address your puzzlement at the lack of interest shown in it, I can only tell you what I thought when I saw it, which was.....
"Jeez...that looks nice..... hmmm Manthey bits.... upgraded this..... wow - upgraded that....bet that was dear......... Christ - look at the rear wing.... erm... a lot of photos of it on track.... 420000 miles..... I'll bet 400000 of them have been on one circuit or another with the car on the ragged edge..... 47 thousand quid?....where are the interior shots?.... I'll bet this is owned by someone that'll think I'm a poof for complaining about stone chips and a shabby interior.... it does look a bit industrial.... one for the track only I think; not one to be cherished....... next...."

Lovely car been on track quite a few times over the last few years and seen it close up, not that surprised that its not sold at 47K, prices for MK1 GT3 Manthey upgraded cars are no more than standard cars, ie RHD is 40k ish and around 37K for LHD. The Manthey upgrades are superb but forget any extra for the car when its time to sell.

Just curious about what you had in mind:
Does "not one to be cherished" mean, "not one to be driven"?

I don't know. I have to think about the stuff I write now? Be a first, I suppose. I think what I meant is that whereas I'd be off to the 'Ring and to circuits in my GT3, I'm a sucker for having something shiny and gleaming at the same time. I love looking at the P+J shots displayed regularly here, with cars shined to the max. I suspect with the Mantheyed car being discussed here, I looked at the advert and felt that perhaps it was for someone with more money than me that was happy to have an expensive mad-maxesque trackday toy. I could do this, and have done, with a Caterham, but with a Porsche I know that when I wasn't driving it, I'd want it shiny and brilliant.
ETA - nervy summed it up better than I did.
