Hi

My Dad is in his 80s and has decided it is time to let her go.

We have no idea what we should be asking.

A few things you need to know.

It has doen less than 30k, it has a servo problem, all body work is good, as is the chassis.

He has lots of info on the car, please can anyone advise what we should ask, and, where does one advertise a classic like this?

Thanks in advance.

Ash.

Hi Ash,

There are several places that you can look at advertising a real S-Type.
There is eBay to start with, you can try watching what is going on on there to get some idea of the market.

www.classiccarsforsale.co.uk

Both the Jaguar Enthusiasts' Club and the Jaguar Drivers club have adverts on in their monthly magazines

From the Jaguar Enthusiasts' Club website you can also access www.jagads.co.uk/ where there are 4 S Types currently listed.

Things that will affect the prices will be
The state of the body & chassis.
3.8 or 3.4
Auto or Manual, with or without overdrive
I think they all had power steering, but I could be wrong, S Types are my speciality.
The state of the body & chassis.
The state of the body & chassis.
(Everything else can be sorted fairly easily, a knackered body will cost several times the cars value to put right)

Sadly S Types are not as popular as the Mk2s, so don't normally go for as much.

Someone like Robert Hughes (www.roberthughes.co.uk/) could probably give you an idea of the cars value. I seem to remember he will do commission sales if that is a route you want to go. He showed me a glorious S Type last autumn. I believe he's got two S types on the books at the moment, both autos.

Good Luck

Ken

Thanks Ken

Car is 3.8, manual with overdrive.

The body and chassis needs very little work as he had the whole car re-built.

Condition is good to very good.

I will ivestigate the info you have given me.

Kind regards

Ash.

A 3.8 over drive is going to be the most valuable version. Later in the year I'll likely be in the market for one, as a project car.

Good luck.

Cheers

That sounds nice? Got any pictures? Who rebuilt the car, how much was done, were any record pics taken? Have you got a Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate with engine, chassis numbers? I might be interested. Much rather have an S-Type than a Mk 2. There is a classified section on Pistonheads you know, there would be worse places to start.

Hi Grim

The car has only 24k miles, and this is genuine.

Yes, we have pics of everything that has been done, basically, the car is available for viewing at any time, he is retired.

We have nothing to hide, he just wants it to go to a good home. As for Jaguar Heritage, not sure, but it has been used in the owners club mag at some point, and we have a copy of that.

My Dad did the interior, and a Jag specialist did the rest, can not remember his name, we have ALL receipts for ALL work done.

Pm me via my profile if you want a chat. I will give you my mobile number.

The car is in Bradford, West Yorkshire

Some pics here, if this works:-

Thanks for the pictures. I'll drop you an email. On value, you could do worse than have a look at a recent copy of the Jaguar Enthusiasts Club magazine. It may help if I email you a copy of the relevant page of a recent one with S-Types for sale. You will see that values are very much dependent on whether restoration work is required, and that will be the judgement to make.

If restoration is required it will be minimal.

The chassis and body work is good, it may need a re-spray.

They key I think is for people to view.

Oh, and can you send the email to ashley_woodmanAThotmail.com
