For all the hot air and childish banter on PISTONHEADS there are some who are upholding the Porsche motorsport tradition.
Tim Chandler in his road legal 996 GT3 RS prepared and maintained by Parr Motorsport has taken the honours at Croft. Fastest lap and a record time saw Tim beat off a hard charging Colin Belton in his 4 litre monster.
Colin Belton removed his wing mirrors, windscreen wipres and passenger seat in a vain attempt to see of the challenge of Timmo.
A real belter and beating for Belton!
Cadwell Park is next.

But neither the Porsche open or Club have been to Croft yet.
Ah you mean the speeeeeeed championship. That`s where people go round on their own for a lap isn`t it and compare times afterwards over a cup of cocoa.
Only joking chaps, keep your (nomex) pants on. Driving is driving. (But I still think the best things in life are done with other people a the same time in the same place).
Had either of them hand applied Zymol, allowing it to melt on the finger tips first of course.
Forgot to take my gold sovereign ring off last time I used the Zymol, cost me a monkey to get the bonnet re-sprayed !

I share your view to a certain extent on sprints but it is a great way of competing in your pride and joy without having every panel damaged each time you go out!
will I be seeing you on the grid anytime during the season Henry? What are your racing plans?
Steve
May be out at Snetterton, though only just back in the country and didn`t have a car when I left so probably more of a shake down.
I have different views on sprinting. You get one shot on cold tyres and if you cock things up it`s all over. At least with a 30 minute race you can build your speed up over a period of time and find your feet a bit. There will always be some contact but there are a good many series (the open included) where you are racing like minded people and rarely is contact intentional.
You also don`t have trees lining the circuit as you do with lots of hill climbs !
At the end of the day I think anything which involves driving your car is a good thing and I certainly have lots of friends in the hill climb / sprint world. I also think it teaches you car control on cold tyres which is invaluable in the first lap or so of a race. ultimately 30 seconds just isn`t enough though, you need stamina and the ability to perform for 30, 45 or 60 minutes at a time, maybe even several hours depending on the other people involved in he activity.
I`m not a great one for swapping bodily fluids though so if we do meet at Snet do bear that in mind

I wonder who he means? I'm not talking about the motorsport bit either.
