Depreciation proof cars....

Please help...
Due to a friend working for a leading tyre manufactor I can now purchase any car with a discount of 15% off list.
My thinking is to purchase a car with a waiting list or something which is really desirable keep it for a few months and then sell it for the same amount I paid for it...maybe a little more..
Budget is not a massive issue as have upto 80k to spend so might as well use most of it as fingers crossed I will get it back !
Anyone have any ideas on what to get at the moment as I am stumped. Maybe an Audi Q7 and then a new M3..Any ideas appreciated

Buy a Porsche 911 GT3 RS in the USA and ship it back to England, list price is $123,000 = £65,000 costs £500 to ship it from US then 10% duty (£6,500) plus 17.5% VAT (£12,512) (total cost £84,512) run it for 6 months then sell it for considerably more than you paid for it given the list price is £94,800!

I'd look at something else rather than a Q7 as they've been on the market for a while now and demand is easing.
How about the forthcoming new X5 if you're into SUVs?
The new M3 would be a good choice too in my opinion.
If you're really after a depreciation-proof car and don't care about it being pratical, try a Caterham or Ariel Atom.

I can sell you my exclusive 5 series, only one in the world...
I would go for something more sensible like a classic car in pristine condition better investment value.
New cars not worth the headache... Not sure the Q7 is in such high demand. And it is ugly...
anyway good luck in your search

First of all I am not anti-SUV
Second I love Audi cars
but
the Q7 is fugly only matched by the equivalent Mercedes model of which I cannot be bothered to remember the type
get a lovely RS6 (the new one)... but it will depreciate!
or a classic Mini... that will not depreciate at all

I can't think of any new car that will hold it's value, at least not in this priceband. How about the Aston DB9 - will depreciate, but at a slower rate, for a while at least.
Porsche, BMW, Merc, all depreciate. The only way is to buy something with a waiting list, then drive it for a while, but sell it while it's still rare.
So what about the Audi R8?
New, rare, expensive. But you'll have to buy it, have some fun, then sell it before every other owner gets bored and dumps on them on the market and goes after the next thing (ah, what fickel and shallow people they are).

Is 15% off list anything special??
Surely the only way this will work is to pick something, anything, which is absolutely NOT being discounted due to, pardon me using this word, fashion and sheer market demand.
btw Audi Q7, sorry but fugly plus barge+pole, but then what do I know.

I think your mate may be misleading you, its more likely to be 15% off certain car makes and types.
The trick would then be to select a car which is new and isnt currently available with discount (i.e. definately not a Q7) but more along the lines of a 3 series coupe cab or Audi A5.

If you don't mind me asking, why should ALL car manufacturers give YOU 15% discount because you have a friend who works for a tyre manufacturer. Sure this isn't a wind up?

My 2p worth, reckon there will be strong demand for the new Audi A5 coupe, S5 when it's announced will be highly sought after.
I think a RS5 would be a good bet based on past trends but typically S models nosedive.
Either way a A5 or S5 would be good for 6-12 months tops, after that the 15% discount would be long gone.
