I already have a bike licence (although I've never ridden them except to do the test, and that was well over a year ago)...

...Is there any sensible way that I can get biking on the road for £150? Including helment purchase etc.

You'll be struggling to find a decent pushbike for £150....

I'm not apologising for that... anyway if I had a puch I'd be avoiding the carnage

Its impossible. Helmet is minimum £30 off eBay. That's all you legally require. Then tax and MOT will be about £50 on a 50cc bike. Then insurance needs to be paid. My insurance alone cost double the price of everything you want. My gloves were £50 and helmet about £100. Jacket was £100 and the bike was a bargain at £700

Yeah it was... when I started biking in 1987. Bike, road tax and insurance for that... probably got the helmet thrown in with the bike. 'Thrown' being the operative word, most of them looked like they had been.

I don't really intend to crash, so would only be having the helmet to stay legal, it can be as damaged as it likes as far as I care.

If you are being serious about this you will need a £1000 to get a cheap bike, insurance and a helmet.
