Hi guys,
I am looking to acquire a 2002 maserati Spyder GT the one I am interested in has done over 40,000 Miles and I am worried that this is a high mileage for a high performance engine and some trouble is to be expected,

Am I correct in assuming this (if yes what trouble is to be expected) or as long as the car has been well taken care off I should have no trouble with it?

Really appreactie any help i could get

Thanks

Depends on the car - plenty of Maserati owners have expense way before 40k (clutches, F1 pumps, twunts driving into you, etc.). Look at it this way, it's not a Ford, so if things go wrong, it could get expensive...

Nothing to worry about per se with the engine. This is a solid engine and there are few reported issues with it.

The main niggles (having owned a 3200 for 2 year) are electrical (e.g. check engine light etc). Try the maserati forum - pher DavidA runs a spider and has had it a couple of years now so will I'm sure be a useful source of info.

i would just make sure its cheap enough versus the mileage, then keep the saving for a bad day. if a big bill is going to cripple you financially and you are pushing yourself to afford the car in the first place then the sensible advice is to wait until you have the funds to run one more comfortably. some parts on these cars can be shocking but there are ways of mitigating this to a degree using independent garages, service agents etc

My '02 CC has just gone over 40k with no reported engine problems. Like others have said its more likely to be afflicted by minor electrical gremlins but these can strike at any time regardless of mileage.

I would guess even with the GT, it will be on its second clutch by now.
