Hi, My dad has a Chimaera 4.0 its a '93 car and the diff is making a slight whining noise. I thought that changing the oil may help so was wondering what oil is best to use? I seem to remember hearing that there are more than one type of diff fitted and I dont know which it is , will one oil suit both or are they better with different oils?

Cheers Guys

Hi

I have a '93 too and I use Mobil SHC 80w-140(ID)

Sounds exotic but is off the shelf in Halfords, you will need between 1.5 to 2 litres can't remember how much exactly.

To be truly Anoraky your diff is a GKN unit, but that and the later BTR ones use the same oil anyway AFAIK

I thought the later diffs were GKN ones? And used 80W/90 LSD oil? May well be wrong though!
