Boxster wheel bearing replacement - is it difficult??
Discussion
My 2001 Boxster S sounds like it needs a wheel bearing replacing. I have just checked out the price of a kit on line and it came out at a reasonable £85. Is it a difficult job to do or should I be puting it in to the specialist to do? If so any ideas on the price I should be paying?
Thanks

Hi Glen
This is not a to difficult job if you are a competent mechanic with a decent set of quality tools. The problem you may encounter is undoing the socket head bolts that hold the callipers on. If you have had the discs replaced recently you should not have a problem but if not these can be a right bugger. You want to give them a good soaking and also heat the thread end up. Sometimes they will strip the thread out when you undo them needing heli coils to be used. It may be worth trying these first and if they look like they are seized let a indy do the job for you as he will no doubt have a jig for drilling these out.Bentley do a Boxster workshop manual which will tell you every thing you want to know to do this job. If you read this first you will know if you can tackle it.
Cheers Bob
