mk2 escort cosworth problem
Discussion
hi I have a mk2 escort witch I have just converted into cossy powered. the engine had been stood for a couple of years I have renewed the phase sensor crankshaft sensor new cambelts leads cap and rotor arm. it has good compresion on all pistons the injectors were stuck but freed them. I got it started for about 30 seconds then it cut out. I managed to start it again after a lot of turning over it ran about 2000-2500 revs for about 30 seconds again. so I tryed to start it again, terned it over for about a minite or so and nothink. I checked the engine and there was a lot of fuel ontop of the pistons and a lot of fuel in the sump with the oil. has eny one had this problem before if so can you please help.
It could be that the injectors have now stuck open and are continually pumping fuel in, flooding the engine. If you have any test equipment, try cranking it with the fuel pump off and see if the injectors are getting pulses or are continually on. Also consider getting the injectors checked professionally.

changed all the injectors got a good pulse still flooding I am thinking of setting fire to it.
Unless you changed the plugs for new ones after the soaking......the chances of them sparking and trying to start, are virtually nil...
And so you will only soak the plugs yet again.
Do you have a decent spark ?
Have you confirmed firing order ? ( ie leads in correct place )
Have you confirmed ignition timing when cranking is at a sensible figure ?
Do you have decent compression ?
All basic stuff.
If all of the above are good ( and with good plugs ), then even if it was massively overfuelling, it would still start.
In the olde days of carburettors and distributors with points, my dad's Cortinas used to fail on especially cold mornings, resulting in very wet plugs. The trick then was to dry them as far as possible, then hold them over a gas flame to heat the ceramic up and drive off the petrol that had soaked in. Crank the engine with no fuel supply (usually holding the throttle to the floor will do this) and with the plugs out should dry the cylinders fairly well.
Bearing in mind that the late 70s / early 80s weren't quite such a health and safety conscious era...
I would think that if you refit the injectors with no electrical connections and they are still pouring fuel in, then its still the injectors. Unless maybe the petrol is massively overpressure?

all the injectors are good. if I start the engine it will start and then flood if I take of the leads to the injectors and then turn it over again it will turn over a couple of times then start up and run till it"s burnt of the fuel in the pistons. can it be the pressure regulator.
Have you checked fuel pressure ?
Does the fuel pump sound excessively loud ?
I guess its possible if the FPR was totally jammed shut.....but still unlikely it would flood that much.
Have you checked all the things I said ?
Ign timing ? etc etc
Cam timing ?
