Hi there,

Just having a read through another forum that I frequent and noticed these threads.

The author of these posts has recently visited the Lamborghini Factory and Museum and has took plenty of pics that many of you guys will be interested in.

I believe he has more pics to follow from Pagani etc so might be worth keeping an eye on.

Regards

Tim

When I read that he already had 6 Miuras in his collection I nearly fell off my seat -- then realised it's a model car website . Some informative photos anyway.

Without wishing to ruffle feathers (who, me? ) he states that "the 5.2 litre V10 is also fitted to the S8".

Er.... no it's not. Aside from the obvious capacity difference, the S8's V10 has Audi's FSI top end and induction system, is wet-sumped, etc.

At best, the S8 engine is about 50% Gallardo. Certainly, Audi can rightly claim that the S8s engine is 'based' upon a Lamborghini engine but it sure as heck isn't the other way round.

I've made this point before but...

If the Gallardo's engine was just an Audi design in the first place, you can bet your ass Audi wouldn't have stumped up a design that they would then have to re-engineer to fit in one of their own cars.

True, the Gallardo engine can trace it's roots (loosely) to Audi's 4.2 ltr V8. But it has a completely different gearbox, crank, rods, pistons (88mm bore not Audi 90mm), lubrication system. Cylinder heads were designed jointly by Lamborghini and Cosworth Engineering (granted, an Audi owned company). There's nothing Audi in there.

As just about every petrol engine can trace it's roots back to Gottlieb Daimler's original, you might as well say the Gallardo has a Mercedes engine.

Preaching to the converted, I'm sure. laugh
