amateur hour im afraid, i have a sony T7 which was/is the slimmest camera you could buy but the damn things broken (slidey lens cover opens but camera still thinks its closed!?). I liked the camera chiefly because it was easy to pop in a pocket but found the nighttime pics to be pretty useless -

can anyone recommend a good camera for 'holiday snaps' type stuff etc.. that is similarly small. (or can mine be fixed/is it worth fixing?)

Many thanks...

The small Fujis are very good in low light. They're also quite compact too.

Sony W35 or W55? Around a packet of cards sized dimensions

Mine seems to be pretty decent for what it is, not to mention the underwater casings are circa £30 on ebay (which is why i bought a W55)

There are several things to think about as well as the size of the camera. Make sure for example that it runs on lithium ion batteries which last much longer and are rechargeable. My Nikon D2X (a pro SLR) gives me at least 1,000 shots before recharging and a small point and press camera should give you at least 300. Another thing to consider is the lens. I just love wide angle so I can take shots inside as well as out and for you I'd recommend the Panasonic FX30. 28/100mm lens, image stabilisation (no blur) and pocket size to boot. 4x2x1 inch in size, 280 pictures before recharging, and a great little camera. Go for it - it isn't dear. Oh, and a great quality lens too.

When I was looking around, i heard the Panasonic was quite noisy, I nearly went for it as the wider angle lense is more suited to what it would be used for - is the noise an issue?

The professional reviews say it is a bit noisy, but then a professional is looking to pick faults. For the majority of us a point and press is mostly for showing on screen or downloading to a CD-ROM for showing on another computer, not for printing 19x13 blow ups and I find the Panasonic's fine - I have the LX2 but that is bigger than asked for here. I have it because it allows me to select manual over ride, aperture priority or shutter priority which for me is useful. I am never without it and find it super. It still uses the same basic technology and I can't find fault really with it, and since I write magazine articles I'm sure the editor would find fault if he could. Today I used the D2X with 17/55 and SB800 flash which requires a weight training course. The Panasonic slips in a coat pocket for the times when sods law comes into operation and you haven't got the big stuff. I'm never without it in the glove box of the car or in my pocket.

Had a play with a friends W30 recently ... not bad for not a lot of money.

I've got a Sony T10.

Very slim, can fit inside my wallet, just

7MP, 3X zoom. About £230 at Jessops, but should be a lot cheaper on the Web.

t10 looks good but i found with the T7 that the 'slidey down front' kept sliding itself down while in my pocket thus switching on the camera and draining the battery -it was also this 'lens cover/switch' that as you can see from my OP caused the camera to fail, have you had any similar probelms with yours?

I think the W35 is around £110 now, the W55 was £126 delivered from dixons.

Bought the Mrs a new point and click job at the weekend. Sony T100. It was th 5x optical zoom that swung it. 8.2mp, image stabilisation and face recognition. I thought this was just marketing blurb, but it's actually very clever (it uses the same image processor as the Sony DSLR) and worked well taking pics of friends at a party in low light on saturday night. Also superb 3" LCD and cracking little movie mode at 640x480 taht you can ouput directly to a HD display, also integrated slideshow function with nice transitions and music background.

Bought this for work, fits in a shirt pocket and tough enough for site visits. Takes very good pictures IMHO.
