This week, yet again, due to catastrophic disorganisition from our tax friends, our admin and payroll staff have spent all week trying to resolve the IR's issues.
This is about the third time due to Revenue cock-ups we have suffered the consequences and ultimately the cost.
It's too long a story to bore you with but to clarify I am talking about incredible incompetence and short-sightedness in situations where they fully acknowledge blame.

Do I have any legal right to reclaim this cost in some way?
They tell me not and that its is tough but it is just making me too angry to tolerate.
Anyone know otherwise?

None whatsoever. They don't even have to use lube.

Get over it. The Revenue are both an immoveable object and an unstoppable force. They cannot break the law because the law is on their side. You, on the other hand, are there to give them money and you if fail to give them enough for any reason they will make your life shit for decades simply because they can. As far as I can work out they can fine you for mildly annoying them let alone anything else and they are legally entitled to presume guilt until you can show that you are innocent.

Don't with the Revenue.

Over the last few years they have

* made up amounts of tax owing (No basis in fact. They are allowed to as well) and forced us to prove we didn't owe it
* invented imaginary Company Cars and put them on our tax codes
* put as all on Emergency Tax for a month (no allowances). Why? Because a bug in Sage Accounts meant we paid them too much. So after recieving too much money the default reaction is...??????...to TAKE MORE! furious

I haven't even got as far as the good stuff ranting

Never screw with the Revenue. Just pony up the loot and be grateful they're not putting you in jail.

I think the Revenue WILL entertain claims for costs incurred in sorting out problems of THEIR making.

If you can obtain, in writing, an acknowledgement by them that they made an error or a series of errors, then submit a cliam based on hours lost and professionsl fees incurred (if any) in sorting the rpoblem out.

Thier stock line is certainly not to that effect.
A witch-like cackle is the average response to that question!

Your time would be better spent trying to push butter up a hedgehogs 4rse with a hot needle.

It is never worth antodonising the jobworth little sh1ts as they can and will make your life hell for no reason.

Make a claim and win or not you will probably find yourself receiving a lot of scrutiny from them in future.

You phone them up for help and they are extremely good but never tangle with them, especially if you own anything. They don't like.
