Hi all!
I'm considering purchasing a T350 and I'm a little worried about warranties. I know it is possible to buy various grades of TVR warranty but can anyone tell me what they entail? i.e. is the TVR Gold warranty with wear and tear the most comprehensive? Would this cover an engine rebuild if my engine went 'bang'? How much do the aftermarket warranties cost?

I'm based in Derby, does anyone know where could I take my car to have warranty work carried out?

Could the future state of TVR as a company effect warranty claims?

Thanks in advance for any help. beer

Mike.

Hi

The TVR Gold warranty does cover an engine rebuild. It comes either with or without wear and tear for an additional premium but I would recommend getting the wear and tear add on as the warranty company could probably argue that almost anything is wear and tear! I think its about another £200 for wear and tear.

You can get the check done at Peter Smith in Hatton which is probably your closest but their labour rates are not the cheapest and I think it now takes about 5 hours to complete the check. I'd recommend TVR Power in Coventry.

Once you have the warranty you must get all servicing done at a TVR garage (again Peter Smith or TVR Power or probably closest)

I bought a 2 year warrnty back in Jan 06 which cost about £2,200 (I think). It is provided by APA (totally independent of TVR) so TVR's future should not effect the warranty. I've claimed for a couple of things so far, the biggect being a new clutch this year.

one imagines that you would need to be very careful who you bought a TVR warranty off at the moment. Double-double check that it will pay out if needed!

Thanks for your advice guys. I'm going to be extra vigilant. Will find out the name of the warranty company and give them a call before any car purchase.

I know of Peter Smith in Hatton, heard some bad reports of them being way over priced but I guess if it's just warranty work that shouldn't be a problem.

I think as the warranty is provided by a non connected third party then any issues with TVR would not impact the validity of the warranty.

The only thing I could think of that the warranty company may use to try and worm out of a claim would be if it was impossible to get the car serviced at a tvr approved garage (i.e. all tvr garages folded) thus breaching the terms of the agreement. But as there are many garages around the country and as TVR Power are now independent of TVR Manufacturing then this shouldn't be an issue.

Its Auto Protect Administration 08707 666667

p.s I'm not an agent of APA!
p.p.s If you fancy a Tamora with a warranty instead of the T350 then mine's for sale in the classifieds. Cheeky but worth a try!

Do you really HAVE to get all work/servicing done by an 'Approved Dealer'? Can you use Indies or will this void any claim made?

Cheers Ceecee, I may be interested in your Tamora. It's a little high mileage for me but would be nice to feel the wind in my hair this summer. Will give you a call next week to arrange a viewing if I haven't already purchased a T350.

Good stuff. Hopefully speak to you next week.

It does say in the terms that servicing must be done by an approved TVR garage so I guess an indie would technically invalidate your warranty (not worth risking it in my opinion).

There's no mention of "other work" having to be done at an approved garage so you could probably get away with just the formal servicing.
