As a new and temporariliy happy owner of a Speed Six I need some help.

Having spent hours of nibbling away my finger-nails reading PH threads on their less than perfect build quality I have a couple of questions to alleviate my jitters:

Water/Condensation/emulsified oil in oil breather. How much,if any is normal? I have been losing coolant, though hope to find a leak of some description soon, so would appreciate some reassuring words on this matter. I have already sawn off a leg and sold a kidney to get the car up to scratch, so head gasket is not an option for me.

Secondly, the Speed Six and AJ8's I believe are prone to apparent misfire/hunting when chugging along at constant revs behind non TVR owners. On full throttle or under load, everything sweet as a nut. Question is then, how much chug and cough can I expect say in 4th at 2000 rpm on the flat. Once again, reassuring words like ''They run like a bag of spanners'' would be good to alay those head gasket gremlins.

Sooner I get some peace of mind the sooner I can spank her like the wanton beast she is..

Can't be amazingly specific but I can relay some of my personal experience of my V8 car.
- I had some coolant leak & emulsion appear on my dipstick last year. It was a knackered radiator & condensation (from being parked for a week in cool weather). Now coolant is constant with no leaks (touch wood). Still occasionally get emulsion on the dipstick in certain conditions.
- My car occasionally seems angry at driving slowly at low revs. Is fine once I open it up. Seems to be magically fixed after servicing though - new leads or some sort of tuning....

If something is worrying though, get it to a specialist for a checkup - a quick pressure test will tell you about any headgasket problems I would've thought. And they might do a magic quick adjust to get it running right. I once had a strange missfiring on low revs that went when I gunned the engine on my old Chimaera - a quick journey to the TVR doctor & they had one listen, changed an HT lead & all was fixed.

The 4.5 V8s are traditionally "bags of spanners" at low revs and I can vouch for that except when just serviced; the 4.2s are supposed to be much better, but I didn't think that the S6 suffered from that issue. Everyone talks about how super smooth they are around town?

Best of luck.

Thanks. Car has just had new rad, and been given the all clear prior to this water loss issue. New pessure cap and covers off rad/header at weekend I hope will resolve, but not yet convinced.

If lots of owners declare their cerb breather water free, it may mean a trip back to Coventry, and further delving into empty pockets

Sorry, no good pictures to hand at moment. Should have done it at weekend after a good Buffing. Unfortunately, booze and burgers took precedence.

Checked dipstick again tonight, and water again present. Only doing 5 miles drive at a time for the daily commute, but it did get a good amount of my size 11's on the pedal before parking up. I just don't think this is right, especially on a hot afternoon. When I brought it back form the Midlands last week it was a cold day, did 150 or so miles and there was a good splattering of emulsion around top of oil tube.

Perhaps I need to find myself a reliable expert in S.East, Coventry is along way to go to be told I'm suffering from Speed Six Worry-itus.

Yeah, go see the guys at Austec by Gatwick if you're near-ish there

Your trip of 5 miles wont do things a lot of good, my last Jag suffered from the old mayonaise in the breathers because of the same thing ,big engine never got warm properly - really bad in the winter. Now use a little old car for work(5min commute) and leave the monster in the garage. And it makes you want to take it out more - cos you know what your missing!!.

Ta for that. Garage has got a V12 E-Type gathering dust.

Was initially looking to buy a 350 GT Skyline as my runaround, but kept a watchfull eye on Cerberas. Having been bitterly disappointed that a fabulous example on E-Bay turned out to be a scam, ended up buying this one. Brave and Stupid, I now have a Cerb as a shopper plus a V8 Soarer waiting to be sold to pay for the Cerb's last trip to the Doctor's.

Got to say the Cerb is a better drive than the E Type, though the Jag does turn more heads. Should have gone for the Raspberry examples out there.

Before anyone asks - I'm not minted. Cars, Wife and Kids to feed (in that order). Just mad I guess
