hand brake advice
Discussion
It's failed the mot on ineffective hand brake. It seems as bad as always to me but I need to do some thing. Did I read that it is best to have more travel at the lever? Some thing to do with the auto adjusters needing more movement to do their thing. Any tips?
Also any tips on the best way of getting to the adjuster? Looks like being a right sod to get at!

You may well have read that - it's certainly true. But it's also possible for the adjusters to stick, so *just* having enough travel doesn't guaranty that they will work.
Not sure if this will help...
My handbrake was very poor...it really didnt do anything. When i took the body off and started stripping things off the chassis i noticed a break in the handbrake cable outer.
From here to the caliper, the inner cable was stuck solid.
From inside the car when you lifted the lever you only had three clicks (Thats the MOT requirement???)and it felt as though it was functioning fine.
Not saying that is whats wrong with yours but it might be prudent to check the outer on both sides...or if you have the time strip the inner and outer cables out and oil them up...i bet that will make a world of differnce.

That is quite a common fault when subject to the hacksaw
Dave
Now i might have cut one or two things with a grinder when i stripped the body off but the handbrake cable was not one of them....
WD40 is not really a very good lubricant...after a while it dries out. If the cable outer has split then the chances are the inner would have started to corrode and the strands split.
The strip and rebuild is comming along very well. The chassis will be going to the blasters on monday and as soon as that comes back i can start putting it back together. Going to start retrimming the seats tonight as i have run out of things to do on the chassis. The brake calipers are painted...brake hoses and fittings are polished (Sad i know) and the shocks are finished.
I have made some gaiters to cover the shocks as well, adding some extra protection and am currently making some guards to cover the outriggers.
I will post some pictures when i start putting it back together.
