P38 Exhaust recomendations

I've been look at what is available in terms of Stainless Steel Cat back systems for a P38. Rimmerbros seem to do a reasonable one at £570 and RPI do one which looks RATHER similar.....I rather like twin tail pipes as my 1999 car already has that set-up.

Does anyone have experiance in fitting an aftermarket system, what are noise levels like in the cabin etc....

I fitted a Rimmer Brothers twin pipe stainless exhaust; the first one on this page:

It was fairly straightforward to fit though it was necessary to cut away some of the lower edge of the plastic to allow the exhaust to fit. There is a slight increase in cabin noise but only at low speed, at normal cruising speed you won't notice any real difference. I no longer have a standard 4.6 engine (now a 5.3ltr lump from V8 Developments following the slipped liner/prous block issue - awesome engine) so my engine noise is somewhat different but I've never heard of anyone complaining about the noise.

Personally I can't stand the bling boy-racer shiny tailpipes so if you can't either get some abrasive strips and roughen up the surface, then spray with high temperature matt black paint. Mine's been fitted for over 2 years with a lifetime guarantee and it was cheaper than the Landrover supplied mild steel item that lasted just two years - a no brainer really.

I've got the full Rimmer Bros stainless sports system on my 98 4.6HSE. This includes the freeflow CATs and has a large bore tailpipe on each side.

It sounds nice from outside the car, and a little more throaty from inside. However, if
you want lots of noise, you'll be disappointed (it doesn't sound like a Griffith).

Also, the mid-upper range acceleration seems slightly improved.

Rimmer Bros very helpful and arrives in the post next day.

I can't comment on physically fitting the system as I left that to the garage.

I have the full sport SS system on my 3.5 classic.
Very nice tone without being too loud. Increase in power. Easy to fit as long as you make sure you get the manifold gaskets the right way round (very easy mistake).
