Many of the replica / repro Porsche 356 speedster cars I have found use donor VW Beetles or a new welded chassis.

I fancy a bit more contemporary oo'mph and handling but love the retro looks. So I was wondering can one use an older (say 1980's / '90's ) 911 convertible as a donor instead ?

Even a Beck or Chesil or the like using a 911 engine would be an improvement.

Anyone heard of such a car ?

I see where you are coming from but a 356 has far more in common with a beetle than a 911, a 912 or 914 would work I suppose but it seems a lot of extra hassle for little benefit.

thought about something similar. the ultimate q-car? in reality the cost of doing it well would be 3 times what it was worth, and the same cost as an original 356...

in 911 & pork world I once saw a speedster that had fuchs & either a 3.0sc or 3.2 carrera engine, it looked superb.

i'd really like a boxster done properly as some sort of hamage to jummy deans car, maybe a speedster windscreen, rear humps, decent wheels & 911 engine. Along the lines of the stola car but better!
