13x7 wheels - what tyres?
Discussion
i have some 13 x 7 inch alloys - question is what size of tyres?
i have no problem with fittment under the arches - its a chevette hsr
power levels are not ott - 150 - 180bhp
i appreciate that i'm restricted somewhat size wise to whats available but a few questions...
1) some tyre manufacturers specify that 7 inch rims need bigger than 205's?
2) alot of the escort rwd brigade do 185's stretched - any problems?
3) dont want to over tyre the car - needs to still be nimble
the cars to be used for fast road (bumpy lanes) and occasional track
whilst the car is not a kit car its the nearest bunch of people i can think of who can help
any ideas

Might be worth looking up the original spec of the HSR, the DSG group have a forum http://dsgtest.yuku.com/ ther are some HSR owneres on there.
Also worth working out what the offset of the wheels are if they are not original for clearance etc www.silicon2000.co.uk/wheelspec has some diagrams at the bottom showing how to measure it etc

All above comments valid, but I'd suggest getting manufacturer data if you can.
For some kind of reference, Avon Cooper websites shows tyre sizes and permitted rim widths.
Although you're looking at Toyos it's not unreasonable to suggest what's recommended for one manufacturer will broadly be the same for other makers' tyres of the same size. Materials science and laws of physics apply to everyone!

For a 185 the maximum rim width is 6" and for a 205 you nominally want a 7" wide rim.
That concurs with my instinct on this, didn't want to comment til I had time to check for comparable data.
Tyre manufacturers are the experts in their field - I really think it's best practice to follow their recommendations when you can.
