Mate wants a 430 spider
Discussion
A mate of mine (yes, genuine) is after a red 430 spider. The question is, should he go for a dealer car or is it worth buying privately? Is there much of a difference in actual price? How do Ferrari warranties work, i.e. how long, any restrictions on change of ownership etc? What's the view on depreciation over the next 12-18 months? Any advice on any cars available or things to watch out for would be very gratefully received. Many thanks. David
I would love to think that people would buy an F430 Spider privately, but I think most prefer the cachet of buying from a dealer.
Warranty has just been increased to 4 years, but that will only be for cars made after March 2007. Before that they are 3 years.
All warranties are fully transferable, so I do not understand people's reluctance to buy privately provided they get them HPI'ed and maybe get a dealer to check the car over.
Prices have held very steady since launch and Spiders should continue to do so over the next year or so. However prices are very mileage sensitive so if he does a lot of miles he should expect to drop quite a lot in value.
More marque-specific info can possibly be gleamed from www.ferrarichat.com or www.fcars.co.uk.
Tell him to have fun and if he wants a Grigio Silverstone with ALL the options, to possibly look me up in a few months time...

I would buy from a dealer (provided the price was within a few thousand) as it makes life much simpler when something goes wrong with the car
Also if you are going to "get into" buying Ferraris you will need a dealer relationship to ever manage to get "new" cars, so you might as well start now

Private sellers often want more than dealers are asking with late F430's.

There have been loads of threads on here about depreciation
This will depend on:
1. demand level - which minus some melt down in the City or real estate market will probably stay high
2. introduction of replacement model - prices will fall when it becomes available (08 - 09)
3. supply - with the US market restrictions from Sep-08 I imagine UK supply for the 1st half of 08 will fall
4. 430LP - you have to imagine that quite most buyers will be looking to shift on their 430s
If it was easy to guess the future values we would all have become car dealers
However as people on here say time and time again - if you are really that bothered about a 20k hit on a 140k car then perhaps you shouldn't be buying one because you will really be in trouble when you slam the car into a wall on a track day when you are uninsured

Lite (light) Pista
It's the 430 version of the Challenge Stradale
Ok, is that what there calling it a 430 LP not CS?

Yes. All the run-out models have had "special" names, 355-Fiorano, 360- Challenge Stradale, Cortina-Crusader (although this last one probably wasn't Ferrari's idea
). Apparently there wasn't room on the back of the 430 to put the proper descriptive title "The Emperor's really new clothes"
