This Bimota SB7 recently sold on ebay for £5k. I'm not an expert but was quite surprised it went for so little, considering that it was about the most expensive bike around when it came out IIRC. Would those in the know here rate this bike and how would it compare with a modern sportsbike? Would there be any particular pitfalls when it comes to owning a Bimota?

I don't know how much they cost to run, but I very nearly bought one of the single cylinder (BB1- BMW/Rotax single engine?) Bimota's in a complete impulse buy a couple of years ago. I love single's and it looked absolutely stunning. I think it was somewhere around the £3-3.5K mark, which seemed cheap for a Bimota that looked so good.
I would imagine the running costs wouldn't be that horrendous if you're willing to use specialists rather than dealers (if there is any)- I assume the engine is standard fare but with different mapping. The costly bits would be running gear consumables I'd would think. It'd be great fun finding out!!
Anybody remember the V-Due- god I wanted one of those when they were released. 500cc two stroke V-twin.....

price is about right ,very rare bike they only made 200 but most people would want the sb6 for the 1100 motor (the rest of the bike is the same just different paint ).for info bimota related see here:

The thing to watch out for on Bimota's are the bespoke items ie. fairings, etc. The engines are taken from all sorts of bikes suzuki, ducati, etc, so parts can be replaced fairly easily. Information about some models can be hard to find, but the enthusiasts club is a good starting point. I like the exclusiveness of Bimota's, but not everybody knows what they are. I have a Bimota YB4EI and went to Darley Moor on Bank holiday monday, I heard one chap say 'Whats a Bimota?', his mates reply was ' I think they're german!!', they're italian btw
Are you a bimota owner/member of the club? There's a ride out this Sunday.

bimsb6- what's your Morini- if it's a twin drum Sport then I'm jealous! You're the first fellow Morini owner/past owner I've seen on here. Mine's only a 50cc- I bought it when I was 15 planning to rebuild and use it but the parts supply was horrendous (apparently it was the only one in the country at the time- guess I should have expected that one!) I had to get a replacement valve made for it as a Honda 50's valves are almost exactly twice the size of the Morini's (the Morini has parallel valves, the Honda angled). By the time that was in place I'd aquired a Fizzy. I still need an oil control ring for it if by any extremely remote chance somebody has one sitting in their workshop!!

350 strada ,owned it for several years now stuck in the back of the garage ! the people to speak to for spares are north leicester motorcycles who also happen to be a bimota dealer .
My Morini actually came from north leicester motorcycles, don't think they were Bimota dealers then though (about ten years ago). When I was there the place was rammed full of Morini's. Nice fella that ran it- I still keep an eye on the advert they often have on the back page of Classic Bike Guide- they have some great Italian exotica, and quite a lot of Bimota's now I think of it!
