Hi anyone had this problem.
My disco 300 XS tdi smoke's badley when left to idle or in trafic and also black smokes when i put it under load, specialy with the boat on the back.
This fault seems to have arrived around the same time that i started running on bio diesel.
I have blanked the egr valve off but this hasnt helped.
Also very poor mpg only 22mpg.
Any ideas ?
Could it need a new turbo ! confused

How many miles has your engine done?
Possibly the Bio diesel I must admit I don't think I'd risk using it, Landy fuel pumps aren't that great at the best of times.
Also your valve stem seals maybe seeping oil into the head.
If you remove the intake pipe to the turbo you can check the spindle for play with your finger. It should have a little play but not too much.

Hi
Its done 122 but with full service history.
The oil never needs to be topped up and i have never had to put any water in it.
It seems to me that its a fuel problem.
What do you think

Typically white=water/steam, blue=oil, black/grey=fuel. Could it be blue rather than grey?

It's something to do with the fueling the, injectors or timing etc. Does that have an injector pump or is it ECU controlled? What is it like to start from cold?

Hi, It sounds like your injectors need cleaning.
I had to do mine when I started to run on bio diesel and once they where cleaned at the local diesel shop smoke gone, performance returned.
I would remove the egr valve completely, the bits to do it are not expensive, and are easily fitted in about an hour.

Drop me a line and I will give you the list and part Nos.
Cheers
Roy

Injection pump.
And starts fine from cold.

I don't want to state the obvious but have you tried running it on normal diesel?
