I need to buy a helmet for track day use. Any suggestions re what to look for, what standards required etc would be helpful. Also what kind of price to pay.

Thanks.

Suggest you look at Grand Prix racewear or Demon Tweeks, they will advise on current standards. How much you pay is really down to comfort and how much you value your head and how many trackdays you will do.

There is a significant difference in comfort as the price gets higher. I initially used a cheapie £55 TopTek one, but after trying several at GP racewear settled on a Sparco one at about £200-220. I did try some £650 helmets and your could have worn them very comfortably all day, but for a few track sessions and some sprinting/hillclimbing I felt that £200 was about right.

Remember you only have one head and you must keep it in decent condition.

Also by going to GP Racewear or Demon Tweeks you will also have a helmet that fits your head properly.

Best of Luck

Easytrack are selling cheap (£80) OMP helmets - i've been to Grand Prix Racewear and tried on their range (£150 to £600-ish) and i'd say the OMP lid is *at least* as comfortable and well-made as the £200 lids at GPR. The only problem is that they've sold out at the moment .

Thanks very much.

Went to Grand Prix Racewear as I was in the area and got one. Agree with the comfort thing, so did try lots on. Only a novice at the moment but looking forward to my second outing next weekend.

Agree -- they have the widest choice in my experience.
