Just recieved some prints back from photobox and one has some weird banding effect . . .

Called them up and very helpfull girl at the other end suggested that this was related to the res being too high . . . the image was a 4000+ pic, 12 jpeg quality from a RAW then 16bit TIFF (in the first place) wide more or less uncropped from the D2x . . . no banding on the original image.

She's buggered about with it at their and and ordered a reprint plus a credit for a couple of re-coded imaged at lower res from my end which I've now ordered . . . very easy and helpfull and all credit to photobox for doing this at 5.45 on a friday afternoon ;-) . . .

Am now hoping the image will work ok as it's in a competition next week . . .

Anybody else seen this ? Apparently also not unheard of on monochrome images . . .

Too high res? Sounds a bit odd to me! What does the banding look like? I got this back from photobox the other day:

The kindly (or I suspect accidentally) reprinted the entire order and resent, the second copy was fine.

FD

Sounds like they have the problem. I've printed a bunch of similar size/quality pics with no problem

T'is definately an artifact of their printing system/software as there is no defect in the original images . . . anyways . . . 3 reprints with various settings now ordered FOC . . .

Banding is like scan lines from a badly set up printer . . . girl on the 'phone said she could see the banding when viewing the image in their printing system but not in the original . . .
