Fuel average in less than cataclysmically bad shocker
Discussion
Evening all,
Pointless I know, but I have just for the first time sat down and worked out that I average about 18mpg in the GTS. Not great, of course, but considering it's my only car that I use to commute to work in town (town being Milton Keynes, which makes it even worse), go to the shops, ferry round wife & baby, plus the occasional jaunt/hoon, it's actually not too bad, all things considered. I'm sure an Impreza or similar would be no better.
Wonder if I've done the calculations right though

Just sold an impreza to get my VXR 6.0 . Used to get between 16-24 mpg in the impreza. Still on the very first tank in my monaro(due to fill up tomorrow) and its looking like about 18mpg. However I have been testing it a little
so didn't expect too much. Driving has been suburban and round town with no motorway.
so didn't expect too much. Driving has been suburban and round town with no motorway.Do the official "pommy" cars (ie UK gtS/GTS-R & Vauxhall Munro/VXR) actually show MPG on the trip meter? All the std HSV/Holden show litres per 100 km so I assumed cos they had MPH speedos maybe they were litres per 100 miles?
Anyway, for wot it's worth, in the HSV coupe (and I drove it like I stole it) I used to get about 20 l/100km around town(13.7mpg), 12 l/100km on a country rd or m'way (25mpg) and at worst I once managed 43 l/100km hoofin it arund town boyracer style one night (6.3mpg)! My "average" over long periods of differnt driving was 17 l/100km. In mpg thats around 16.
(I always get confused by imperial measures but I understand there are 4.545l per UK gallon?)

yes my vxr shows avg mpg in the dash, but the thing I found surprising was the single set of speeds with a backlit MPH. is there a method of changing that to metric? you always feel like you are going faster in metric, bigger numbers

Flip through display with mode button, when you get to IMP MET then press UP or DOWN to change. Then KPH shows instead of MPH and all displays are l/km instead of mpg.
Have just got back from an 1102 mile round trip to the Lakes, round to Gosforth in Newcastle for a meet, an amazing cruise through some mad country lanes, and back down south.
On the way up we averaged a steady 28.4mpg.
Up to Birmingham we had about 26, this dropped to about 22 as we hit bad traffic going though the sh1tty centre. Then back onto the motorway and into the southern lakes, we averaged the 28.
Then.....got a bit brave and decided to hoon around the lanes of the Lake District......always a challenge.!! MPG dropped to 21.3
This morning, we headed off to meet some friends from another forum for a Northern Meet and we got back up to 26mpg. Then another spot of hooning around the Northumberland lanes and villages, we dropped back to 19.7, from the 25.2 we had when we reached Gosforth.
Then heading back home down the A1, M1, M25 and M3 we had a steady........and personal best........of 32.7 and I was well impressed. The car was totally abused this weekend and it handled things extremely well, but more so I was overjoyed with the mpg given the different levels of treatment the car had received all weekend.
I doubt whether I will see that level of return again, but tonight driving back from Newcastle, both of us were cream shanked, so we had a nice 70mph run in cruise control all the way home.

To change from MPH to KPH just hit the menu button until you hit the menu option that allows you to switch between the two, then use the up/down button to move between the 2 options, finally hit set to make the change happen

On the weekend of the Brands Hatch meet I did a little over 1300 miles total in 4 days in the 'ro and managed to get a grand total of 26.4mpg, and my longest stint between fills being around 340 miles - I was just below the 1/4 tank marker at this stage and as I normally get around 200 miles out of a tank during the normal work week I didn't want to push it right to the red incase the next service station was out of reach

1/4 tank fill-ups (150 miles) around town, short trips equate to 11 MPG, restrained useage returns (250 miles) 18 mpg, long trips will return 23-25 mpg & full-on track days are 4 MPG but then get black flagged for bering on full chat around the circuit so slight easing off gives 8-10 mpg.

Mines so bad I am going to have to get something else as a daily driver - much to the wife's dismay.
I had to do the same. My daily commute (I have two jobs) was all of 4 miles, then 6, then 10, then 4 - sort of thing. At the moment the gauge reads 8.9mpg - but that's generally as she doesn't move a great deal.
I'm running a Citroen C1 now. Not sure why I still have the Monaro...

mines blown and on a run I`ve seen 25.6mpg(6.0VXR)and whilst playing a bit with AM04ARO on the way to Brands. Generally its about 22-23 but only cos I put the brain back and drive like my mum.( No GPS/Detectors/Jammers etc yet, and 9 big ones on the licence).
Jez, glad to here your getting good use from the motor, I've got six large on my license now, and I'm fearing renewal, given you have nine did you have much trouble finding insurance ?
See you at fleet services on Sunday morning, what time you getting there ?
