hi all, can some 1 please help me, i have an S reg escort 1.8si with 17inch alloys, i have been told by a garage that the big wheels keep destroyin my wishbones. how can i stop this from happenin? will uprated bushes help? loads of other people have big wheels so how come it doesnt happen to every1??? please help.


wheels dont rub, it is just the rubbers on the arms that get destoryed.

That depends how the wheels are damaging the suspension. Is it rubbing against the metal or battering the bushes into submission?

It may be that the wheels you got are simply too wide, and when you have the steering on full lock it is hitting the lower arm.

bigger non standard wheels often destroy bearings and other suspension components simply because the wheels the suspension was designed for are much smaller

what is the brand of wishbones being fitted? genuine or the cheap rubbish that knocks about from time to time - the quality does make a big difference

On the subject of wishbones. Would the knocking noise from my '00 escort at the front when going over bumps be the bush's getting worn? I know these can be a ford weak point, or is it the ARB and associated bushes.
