Hate to sound callous but I fear its too many of the fair weather bikers getting out for the first time this year and not building up slowly again
I know I was quite rusty when I got back on mine in Jan...

Totally agree, I have seen some utter nobs on the roads this weekend on bikes, feckin morons.
I dont use my bike during the summer weekends as the roads are full of leather wearing nob cheeses whose only aim is to ride round in circles, get their knees down or maybe venture a whole 10 miles or so to the nearest 'meet' to join the rest of the brigade. Its mad!!!! The worse thing is that when it rains or gets dark they seem to shit theselves and can't ride. Saw a bloke this morning on a Triumph speed triple thing, he looked so stiff and ridgid in the shoulders I'm surprised the bike went round any bends and seeing him wobble through the traffic was scary...
I dont get why people dont ride all year round. The winter is much more fun than the summer anyway and when the summer comes round its much much better!!!

I have to say that having only passed my test in October, at the ripe old age of 43, I still have much to learn. BUT... I was on the bike throughout the winter, in the rain on many occasions, and had the odd heart stopping moment going over manhole covers that were more slippery than ice. Not only has this given me a great deal of respect for the conditions I am riding in, it has also tought me plenty about the handling characetristics of my bike and, I believe, made me a much better rider already than if I had waited for the sunshine. I still go round bends in the wet fairly slowly as I still do not really know where the limit is but my dry weather riding is so much better today than the dry weather days in November. What's more I seem to have more time to look around me, check mirrors etc as I spend less time worrying about controlling the bike and more about riding it (if that makes sense?) !!

Ditto: had the bike 6 months, put on around 7,000 miles now, more than many do in a year. Whilst my skills are so underdeveloped I couldn't imagine not riding the bike, I'd be a total hazard to myself and others when I came back; I'm enough of a nob as it is tbh.
Totally NFI in "getting my knee down", although I do examine my chicken strips on a regular basis
but honestly far more interested in being a good road rider than pretending I'm a racer: that's what the track is for.Gassing Station | Biker Banter | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
