Please help me recently had my car serviced in which I had all new plugs, leads and extenders. Got it back it was losing power completely at high speed. Got it back today after having pipe that fits on the phelum to control pertol air mix (by the stepper motor)put back on and the valve in-line on the vaccum advance pipe taken out as it was not letting air through. Also carried out full ECU and petorl/air flow diagnostics and all perfect.

Drove it home and can't believe it when I pull up at a junction the revs drop and if I dont blip the throttle it stalls.

I have re-set the ECU and the stepper looks fine quite frankly I am at a loss so any help /advise would be greatly recieved please

Thanks in advance

Any air leaks (pipes / plenum / disconnected purge valve or servo...) - I have experienced far more problems with idling on a variety of Rv8s due to badly sealed plenums & never had a problem with s stepper motor!

Could be bad connected ignition leads to istributor. Especially happens at high revs (it feels as if you hit a wall. Stalling at idle points to an air leak like Dave mentioned. Especially check the hose between AFM and plenum and it's clips.

Could it be a bad plug or lead ? I made the mistake of thinking that because
I had replaced some components when I had a fault, that they the replaced parts,
could not be at fault, so started looking at everything else but the problem still remained,
eventually traced the problem down to one of the new plugs.

I have a similar problem with mine i beleive on mine its the butterfly that lets the air in from the ducting, the previos owner used to race her and had filed away sime of the flap letting more air in on tickover, so i recon you have an air leak.

I would have thought that it was only unmetered air that should cause idling problems.

I appreciate that you may have lost faith but shouldn't you take it back to the garage that did the service and ask them to sort out the problem they've caused?

That's a fair comment but too be honest i think they have run out of ideas and i have run out of patience...I guess lesson learnt last time I go to a non tvr specialist....only too be honest they have been looking after my car for the last three years without a blip but this problem has them stumped....the have offered for me to take it back again but I just want to get it working so TVR specialist is the route I'm taking

To find air leaks use a can of lighter gas with a bit of hose attached, so you can spray the gas around every joint after the airflow meter, if the engine rev's up you've found your leak.

Another option in Kent to consider in future is Chris Baldock at James Motor Sport, he's based in Molash down between Canturbury and Ashford. He used to work at Waldonway so he knows his TVR's and I've heard nothing but good things about him so far including my own experience with him (my chim is down there for a service as we speak).

I thought the accepted way to trace air leaks was to spray plus gas, and leak would be apparent when the engine gasped?

Dave
No problem to me as I always have plenty of lighter gas around

thanks for the tip on the other option in Kent i will bear in mind for the future although looking at threads on here Austec has a really good reputation.

As the spraying gas in the engine bay I will take your word for it and leave it to the experts at Austec on Friday

All fixed by 'Paul' the man at Austec I can't praise him enough...rolling road proved I had a miss-fire and timing out. The numpty who worked on my car put the wrong plug extenders which was causing my problems.

Car is now running better than ever all thanks to Paul at Austec what a top bloke and all his staff are really helpful and friendy.

I cant praise them enough....one satisfied and now loyal customer!!!!
