porsche warranty and sport exhaust
Discussion
could soon buy another modern porsche from a zentrum in germany with a one year warranty.
Probably 987s or 986s 550 spyder.
what happens if i put one of these exhausts on:
http://stores.ebay.de/OETTLES-TUNING-
do i totally loose the factory warranty?
Say i have RMS failure, i have the exhaust on... will porsche refuse to make the warranty work??
ps: am sure the subject been discussed many times, but has someone had that problem recently? the chap at the porsche zentrum in Germany said i should not put anything non-porsche on the car at all.

Its a difficult question - in theory by the wording of the warranty you could invalidate it, but legally this is a bit shaky as they would have to have to have a reasonable argument that the non-porsche part caused or contributed to the failure. It also depends a lot on your OPC and your relationship with them as to how much of a blind eye they turn to mods.
So in answer to your original question, the OPC could refuse to look at your car because of the exhaust, but I would think in reality changing the silencer to a noisier one would not concern them in the slightest, and certainly not for something completely unrelated like an RMS leak - at the end of the day the OPC get paid by porsche to do warranty work, so if your relationship is good they're as keen to get the work done as you are.
You could also adopt an "avoid the question" approach that if something does happen (like the engine goes pop) then get the car towed home and refit the original silencer before taking it to the OPC.

Hi
just something to add....opc extended warrant have rejected a tiptronic gearbox claim where the gearbox was replaced as it had a leak warranty agreed to replace gearbox customer was on his way with gearbox but there was note on car about techart wheels and warranty rejected the claim and told opc to pay themselves also to cancel the guys warranty policy as he has invalidated it.
How the wheels being bigger have caused/contributed the oil leak is BS.... and they were techart wheels which if you were going to fit some aftermarket wheels you would of thought you would be ok with techart !!

I'm a lawyer not an engineer - but I would have though that fitting different SIZES from the recommended might alter things from a stress through the gearbox perspective which might render the gearbox liable to more or different stresses? One can imagin that if you fitted slicks to a car then the gearbox would take a pasting

Wot Clubsport sed.
The policy is quite specific, that it is invalidated by use of non OEM parts.
NOW HERE'S THE RUB
That means that contractually they can refuse the claim if, say, then engine blows and you have a moody 'zorst. Also if the gearbox breaks and you have mahoosive alloys which are not OEM. Whether they should do so morally is another matter.
BUT
Thhe fact is that as with all insurances, if they refuse to pay out you have to sue them so you're on the back foot. Don't give them ANY excuse.

clubsport, the reason why i posted this, is that there are various degrees of interpretations. I would have a warranty policy issued by a porsche zentrum in germany and valid throughout europe. I will probably (hopefully!) never have to claim anything to these people in germany directly.
HOWEVER, i might have a problem WHILE staying in the uk, where i could be led to claim something.
I think i read here in the past that someone had a non-porsche zorst on their cars and had a bearing, or rms failure and still managed to claim the warranty from porsche.
I agree, if we stick to the contract, the warranty is out... however, i am quite sure that the reality can be different. I just wanted to hear the experience of people here.
I suppose if i really want to put (an indy puts it for me) that exhaust on the car, i shall get it removed prior to go to OPC and claim for anything broken.

I think it depends how your OPC relationship with each individual is, I put a tubi on my 996 turbo, checked with them fiirst and they also fitted it, subsequently sold car but first had new warrenty put on same time as having paint work done so they knew all about car. New warrenty with tubi, issue not even raised about being invalid.

I think this is right. If you know them and get on well with them, then they may well be OK.
If you're an ar5e with them, they might not be quite so accomodating.

You had an OPC fit a Tubi to your car?? Thought OPCs can't fit non-OEM parts?

Yes, they did and stored my original until picked up by new owner.
