I'm about to transfer my private reg onto my T350 and was wondering what to do with the front number plate.

I'm thinking of replacing the front plate with a flexible stick on plate that you see on some cars. Are they legal? Is this recommended?

I currently have a garage name all over my number plates in pretty large text. Ideally I would like no text on the plate other than the reg itself (and maybe a TVR logo). Looking at some web sites which sell plates it looks like they are pretty clean (no text). Can anyone confirm this?

I've found a few places recommended by people on PistonHeads:

www.fancyplates.com
www.demonplates.com

but these places don't seem to do the stick on flexible plates. A quick search on Google and I've found a place that does these plates:

www.craigsplates.com

Does anyone have any advice on where to get plates from and whether or not to go for the stick on flexible front plate on my T350?

You can get a slightly smaller plate from them too if that's your fancy.

I didn't see the option in the selection, do you just put it in as a special request on their site?

I got a stick on one and a rigid one from my local sing maker, I'm not sure about the stick on one though so I'm still using the (slightly smaller) rigid one.

Fancy plates come with a set of stickers and screws so you can use either.

On the legality side.... I have a smaller stick on plate. I did get stopped by the police, they were doing random van stops but I was obviously going a little to fast and they pulled me in. They didn't have any evidence of my speed so they gave me a £30 fine for an illegal number plate. I still have it on now and the police have seen it.

I used a modified MX5 front plate mount to allow the standard plate to sit flat on the nose of the car.

When using Fancy plates online - just add a comment on the last page - "Front - Sticker Plate" .. that is what they advised me to do.

If you want a normal, but smaller plate you're looking for the motorbike custom size in the second screen.

Personally I think stick on ones look naff.

I'm not sure what does look best on the front of the T350, I think no plate looks best but I don't think I can get away with that although it would be nice with all the average speed cameras being installed down the A14...

Anyone got an example photo of the stick on kind of plate? I'm tempted to go for the smaller design but would rather keep it as legal as I can. Maybe I'll just stick with bog standard 100% legal plates.

I think airflow to the radiator would be slightly better with no plate / stick on plate. Does it make much difference?

2006 cars had a shaped MX5 number plate mount. Mine was done at the factory on last service visit-body colour and looks fine IMO

I've just ordered some completely plain plates (legal font etc.) from Craigsplates.com after people recommending them all over the place. I was going to order both a stick on front plate and a normal font plate but didn't seem to be saving any on postage so decided to see what the stick on plate looks like with the intention of ordering the plastic front plate should it not look good (I'll try bluetac first to see if it looks ok )

Nick, would be interested to hear what you think of the stick-on front plate from Craigsplates. I got mine from fancy plates (see my profile) and the material was quite thick, so had real trouble getting it to conform to the curves of the T350, ended up making a bit of a mess of sticking it on.

I'll let you know how well it goes on. I need to send the stuff off to the DVLA first though. I'm not sure how to stick it on. I stickered up my Leon for Le Mans last year and think I worked out a decent method of sticking on those stickers, did them all with wet bodywork and squeezed out the water once in place.
