Spring Rates

I fitted new GAZ front dampers and springs early last year and have generally been very pleased with the results. The kit came with 350lb/inch springs which were also quite short (about 9inches free length from memory). The car handles superbly on smooth or wavy surfaces but crashes out badly over ridges, holes etc. I was wondering whether to change to longer 300lb springs (Steve Heath book says 260 lb springs were standard). What do you other guys recommend?

I can't remember which springs ended up on mine and because all of the paperwork went with the car to it's new home yesterday I can't check. However it was all fitted and set up Guglielmi Motorsport here.... www.scaredstifff.com/

Your profile says you're in the East Mids so they're not too far from you and will happy to talk through options on phone if you don't want to visit them. After the change the handling was much much better with less grounding.

I have contacted Gugliemi and will see what they say.
Yes it is my S2 at Ashby Folville, June meeting I think. We tend to go in convoy from Loughborough- 2 S's, Stag, Morgan +8 and Healey 3000. Missed April's meet but we are all preparing for May. Hope to see you there.

Hi Mate
You shouldn't have any problem with those rates at all with Gaz, my suggestion would be start again on damper settings.
I take it you have had a geometry set-up as well, if not Gugi would be a good place to get the whole car set-up to suit your needs. (not a bad place for servicing either)
