I was wondering, what sort of 0 - 60 times do you chaps get?

Road testers (magazines etc.) tend to do a standing start by revving to 4,000 or so and then dumping the clutch - not something I really fancy doing to my car. I would presume that 2 seconds or so might be lost doing a more sensible start - what do you think?

What sort of 0 - 60 times have you achieved? - normal start or dump clutch start?

I havent tested it, although i do have a performance meter which is good fun! Havent put it in the wedge yet though...

From personal experience, if you dump the clutch at anything more than 2k ish then you tend to get lots of noise, black lines and a stars in their eyes style smoke wall!!!

Seriously though, success is usually with progressive granny starts. In dads ultima sometimes we start in 2nd just to stop wheelspinning!

350i - about 6 seconds is achievable. The 350i will handle clutch dumping quite happily. Whether you get smoke etc depends on the tyres, I've found the bridgestones and yoko's to be low-smoke.

400SX - rumoured to be 4.2s. I would probably need some timing device to verify this though! You don't so much dump the clutch as feather the throttle in 1st, or else all manner of wheelspin results.

Don't know 'cause when I put my foot down, it gets noisy and scary. So I grit my teeth and close my eyes.

That's quick

Maybe 0-100-0 should be the norm for tests?

Stunning isn't it. Certainly an add on if I could afford it, not a replacement mind you. Sort of puts it all into perspective.

Technique as advertised by others for TVR is get it rolling first and then full throttle. If a fast getaway is needed I keep it at 2000 revs, get the clutch to engage (now it is rolling), keep the 2000 revs during it, and then floor it. Seems ok, feels bloody quick (don't know how quick, but not many keep up with it and motorcycles have to 'go for it' to be faster), and is not to hard on the drivetrain.....
So you still have your wedge JJ? And keeping it?

I reckon maybe 1.5 to 2.0 seconds could be lost due to not trying out the 'road tester start' with dumping the clutch. But then wheelspin takes up some time too.

Just mucking about last week I tried 2 runs - no wheelspin, no chirruping of the tyres, no dumping of the clutch and taking it up to 4,500 to 5,00 revs (I rarely use more than 4,000) I got 7.5 seconds. Another more aggressive driver, I feel, could do better.

I think the traffic on the road I was joining from the slip road was a bit surprised!

Yes, I still have my Wedge and it is/will be for sale. I just can't seem to get round to advertising it. It is becoming rather a pain getting the car out of the garage and back again - that sounds a simple task but at this place it isn't.

I will have to buy another car so I'm quite interested in a p/x on a trade down basis; i.e., the buyers car plus cash in my favour. At the moment I quite fancy another luxobarge, or decent coupe. Have taken a liking to Saabs too.

If anyone is interested please get in touch.

And then the E Type should be out of the body shop for me to play with for a little while!

cheers!
JJ
