Help, I nearly got boiled alive at the weekend and its only April !

I remember my 500 getting v. hot in the cabin in summer but I'm sure this was even hotter. Trouble is that I can't tell which way is "cold" on the heater controls... and to be honest the little red LED indicator doesn't seem to light up anyway so I can't tell if its currently fully to the left, fully to the right, in the middle or just bust !

Its a 1992 4.0 - so which way do I push the button on the top heater control to try and get less than scalding air out of the vents.

To be honest even with the blower off hot air seemed to be pouring out of the bulkhead all over the place so it may not even be the heater....

Any other suggestions or am I just a bit too "heat sensitive" ?

Check the heater valve isn't stuck open.

Thanks dnb.... I did things the wrong way round. I put my post up and THEN did a search. Looks like its been done to death oin here.

To be honest there seem to be a number of options but for now I'd be happy to just to shut off all heating as I only use it when its nice and sunny (wimp !)
So is there an easy way for a spanner numpty like me to shut off the valve completely so no hot water get cycled through the heater/interior ?

Take the valve out and bung up both ends of the pipe with suitable bolts like I did last summer!
It's a bodge, but it works very well! There's quite easy access to the valve in the passenger footwell, but make sure you take the carpet out and have a drip tray handy...

Isnt that the old heater bypass hot potato ~ or do you not have a thermostat fitted? (ensures flow of coolant before stat opens)

Pretty certain I do have a thermostat fitted... any downsides to doing as dnb says and blocking the two pipe ends ?

I didn't notice any downsides. I even have an 84 degree stat in my engine.
Data logs from ECU showed the coolant quickly hits 84 degrees, the stat opens and there is a half cycle of oscillation before the temperature stabilises at 86 degrees (approx 2 degrees amplitude). This is good enough for me.

Why in the world would a car maker use the heater matrix (with an inline valve on it) as a bypass for the stat? It makes no sense to me as you can't guarantee anything about water flow through this part of the system. Of course, this doesn't mean TVR didn't do it this way, just to be odd...

Christ, what I wouldn't give for a decent bit of heat in the TVR. I still haven't got around to the mod done by Anthony but I will one day. Until then I'll just have to stick with the elkskin underpants !
