So i went to get my (mountain) bike this morning to go to work, to find some little bottom dweller has stripped it down and removed anything that wasn't secured including the axles, saddle, seatpost, peddles, ripped the handle bars off hence ripping all the cables out etc, dumping all the brake fluid (disc brakes) on the floor. Wonderful. Good job the tube strike had been called off...

Anyways, i doubt anything will come of it, despite the car park being covered by CCTV but i need to report it even if it's only to stop Tony Bliar reporting better crime figures. Can i report it to any police station, or do i need to go to the one local to my flat? Ideally i'd report it to the one near work (Mayfair) as it's easier for me to pop in there. (Home is Wandsworth)

Thanks in advance.

Unless you believe the culprits were speeding it is probably not worth bothering!

If only it wasn't so true. No doubt the parts will have been sold on and the cash used for drugs or guns. I just hope whichever the preferred option is, it leads to the scum's demise and free's up some oxygen for the rest of us. Going to cost about £300 to repair properly, so looks like it's back to the tube for me.

I think it would be better to report it near to where the incident happened. Hopefully the plod manning that station know the local scrotes and thus know who to go arrest or investigate. At the very least its something to add to their charge sheet when they finally catch up with the little sods

I'd also get yourself a crime number for insurance purposes, assuming the bike was insured obviously.

You used to be able to report minor crime on-line at www.online.police.uk/ ... but they've "temporarily suspended" this service while they develop and test a new system. Presumably they couldn't afford development or test servers. Or could it be that they've decided to reduce the "crime wave" by removing an easy way of reporting it (bearing in mind that many people will imagine that bu99er-all will be done by way of detecting 'minor crime') - Streaky

You could wire the next one up to the mains and get the crime upgraded to murder -- then the Police take it seriously.

And hopefully, you can find a police station that's open. If you do, rest assured, there will be no shortage of BiB inside, but they'll all be too immersed in their paperwork to spend any time with you. But, the CRN is not all you'll get. An offer of Victim Counselling will come too ... paid for out of motoring fine surcharges, no doubt - Streaky

Amazingly, the system seemed to work. I got minorly ripped off by someone on another forum, so rather than lose sleep over it, used the online tool thing. Told them the details I had, said it wasnt important in the overall scheme of things, and a week or so later, got a call from a nice lady officer, who had phoned said scrote, who promptly refunded me, smiles all round, job done. Much better than risking being frowned at down the station.

They tend to work 9 to 5 . Monday to Friday.. supposedly.

But they have telephone outside.. which connects to someone who "does not really know anything und tells you to go to the next nearest police station confused confused confused

Nein hehe Ist streams of runny jam oozing from doughnuts und mugs of tea. With the occasional two fingered .. er.. typing as token effort

Of course .. he need counselling. That was his "baby" who was cannibalised there. I bet his Mountain Bike had a name too. hehe

But you are right of course. The letter ist a load of nonsense. My sister-in-law reported a flasher in a cemetary once. She received a letter offering counselling for the "distress" a man showing his bits in public cause her rolleyes She said he really did not have much to show off .. but he was clearly a disturbed individual. Turn out he was a "care in community" person.. who had been provided with a car by these caring services to the community He was copped, apparently, by the local's finest .. driving on wrong side of the road at "erratic speeds" near the cemetary .. und ended up back in the care home. rolleyes

In-law asked what was meant by "erratic speed" thinking a big car chase had taken place ...und was told that he was "crawling" along und then accelerating hard. rolleyes

It's 8-4, actually, Monday to Friday, with alternate Tuesdays, Thursdays, and weekends off.

I sometimes stay late. Up to 5 past 4 on occasion...

Ach! No wonder it was closed that time then. But not easy to report a crime.

hehe hehe

Well i went along and reported it, found my local police station was opne, 24 hours! Would you believe that?! Even had a proper bobby on the front desk too! And guess what?! He actually seemed interested in what i had to say! Unbelievable. And then! then! We had a laugh as he asked me if i would like some victim support, he apologised but said he had to offer it!

Long and short of it is that i found most of the parts in the bushes when i got home. It would appear that they had tried to steal the bike, but the two locks had thwarted them, so they'd decided to strip the parts off it, through the car park railings (i.e. from outside). Looks like the tossers disappeared in a hurry, leaving most of the stuff behind. They'd even taken care to unbolt the calipers etc and all the allen bolts were collected in a little pile. There is CCTV on the outside of the building but it only watches the footpath to the river and not upto the railings. Ah well, at least i got most of the bits back. Will just have to buy a new lock (once was badly damaged), new cables, new axle and put it all together.
