What's the Best Italian in York please?

The in laws are coming down this weekend and Mrs. B's father is of good Tuscan stock, ex-restaurant owner and now Italian wine and food importer, so it needs to be very authentic rather than trendy. Flash is not a problem, so long as the proprietor/chef and the food/wine are the real deal.

Would have been better if he was of Tamora stock, but thats just because I've got one.

With a rather tenuous PH related theme, I can recommend Capri in Selby, opposite the Minster. Medici in North Ferriby got a tick from Don Vito too.

Car is feckin quick though! Headed out of Leeds on A65 on Sunday with a 360 following me and he couldn't keep up!

To be honest I would be intereted in the outcome of this thread as I have tried most of the italians in York and suspect that the majority of the staff in most of them would struggle to even point out italy on a map, I know a half decent french, which is cafe rouge which even though it is a chain is pretty authentic, I also know a good greek which is mana, which is run by a grumpy fat greek man who charges a service charge, but the food is worth it.
Italians though are a different matter, about 5 years ago I used to go to one in pocklington but then it went right downhill, even though it hasn't changed owner and they are genuine italians.

The Tamoras are quick no doubt Tony. The two cars are very similar performance upto about 140 then the 360 would slowly take over onto it's 10-15mph higher top speed depending which data you believe.

To be honest that guy seems more Pizza hut than Naples. He'd probably be happy with stuffed crust and extra everything on a super thick base.
There's a place Paola likes in Leeds Centre. Quite a few of the waiters and waitresses are from Tuscany. Probably a bit too far for you but I'll ask her the name in the morning unless someone else knows the place I'm talking about. It's a bit flashy but the foods good and some decent choice.

Can't remember the name of the place but mama always plays her italian operetta's full blast in to the town centre so not hard to find for a spot of lunch! Cheap too! Just what an italian should be, cheap, cheerful, cheesecloth covers on the tables, mad italians obsessed with italia 90, go in you'll like it!

La Locanda in Wetherby - if it still exists....by the river on the LHS at the top end of Wetherby as you head out to Harrogate.
Also isn't Ceasars on Monkgate in York an Italian....pretty sure it is

Ceasars have just opened in Haxby, spot on from what I've heard so far.

not that I know much about what is or is not genuine Italian stuff, but Totos opposite the barbican is fantastic, old school service, all-italian staff and not 'trendy' as such, more just a nice italian place with good food and a good atmosphere.
if you have the means, I highly recommend it

My vote goes for the one just outside Micklegate bar, Delrio's. From memory its Sardinian rather than Tuscan, but very good.
If you're looking at lunchtime try La Bottega Delle Langhe on Goodramgate it looks like a deli, which it is, but at the back they have a small sit down place, all the stuff they sell is imported wine, oils, meats and cheese etc and thats all they serve along with home baked bread. The owner's italian always in behind the counter. Top place.
