the girlfriends dad just got a free tomtom through the post, he thinks its from a job he done a while back, and we cannot get it to work.
we are getting to the stage where it says about dont use it while driving its dange..... etc.
then when we press agree it reboots and goes through it again. this keeps happening.
has anyone got any ideas or solutions.
tried getting a contact number but thought i would try here first.
quick response would be gratefull.

Are you sure its a tomtom? They're supposed to be 'plug and play'.
yeah thats what we thought. it has now jus got a blank lit-up screen.
i found something on the net about a hard reset at the bottom of the device but cant see anything.
The hard reset I think your talking about is the tiny little hole on the bottom of the unit. You need something long, thin and hard
to push it, like a paper clip. That might solve your problem

the only hole i can see is beside the button for dismounting it from the window holder! dont really want to poke it in if something bad might happen.

The hard reset should only reset it to it's original state, since you haven't got it to work I don't think your gonna damage anything. When you turn it on are you charging it at the same time? You might be low on power.
The reset button is on the bottom, near the connectors -not that hole in the front fascia.
If you stand the TT on its top and look down into the hole where the mount goes, you see the gold connectors and a bit of a gap with a circuit board showing. On the other side of the gap from the connectors, there's a small hole - this is the reset button. Push a paper clip into it - you should hear a slight click. It's now reset. This is also a cure for those occasions when it randomly decides not to power on.

i poked it and it did nothing. yeah when i was turning it on it was on charge so there is power. but like i said its jus a blank lite-up screen now
right got it working again ish. its now back to gettin to the legal notice i press i agree then it reboots and starts again. its really annoying me now.
im goin to leave it on charge for a little bit now then try again. i have tried sitting in the car and outside as i thought it might not be picking up signal but it jus appears to do the same.
could the problem be something to do with lack of signal and should i try the middle of a field or something?

there is only one button/bit you can press, cant cancel it or decline it. o yeah i did have to check again before i posted

As far as the reset button is concerned, you have to hold it down for at least 10 seconds with a pin as described earlier.
Also, you say there is only one button - it's a touch screen so are you pressing the off button or actually tapping the screen when you get to the legal question!?

Get the USB lead, and plug it into your computer. Go to the TomTom site, and to their support section.
Make sure before you reinstall the TomTom firmware that you have the product code for your device, and the map code.
