Claud Lelouch who filmed it originally claimed he did it in a Daytona (rumour has it). I think it turned out he did it in a merc. There was also talk of a professional racing driver although I think that turned out to be untrue too.
He was arrested at the premier.

Yeh I think it's a merc as the (huge) camera mount (with much scaffolding) wouldn't go on the Daytona.

My friend refuses to believe me on that though.

iirc there are a few bits where if you watch the other cars you can clearly see that the film is speeded up

I also though that although the car driving is a Merc the exhaust sound is from a Ferrari - very cleverly done considering this was done 30 years ago

I don't think I've ever seen Paris so quiet. I take it he filmed it very early in the morning?

Great bit of film though. What would people say had it been done today?
